Food for Comfort

I used food to comfort myself when I was stressed, sad or lonely. I also used food to celebrate. Now that I am dieting, obviously I need to find other ways of comforting myself or other ways of celebrating. Can anyone tell me what they have done:seeya:

Hi! I'm brand new to this site but I read your post about how you use food for comfort etc...I'm the same way!! I think everyone is (but maybe thats a generalized statement) All of my friends say the same thing about food. I'm no longer dieting, but I am managing my weight. I STILL have to think of replacents for my need to eat for whatever ails me. There's a couple things I do that actually really work for me. One is I make myself get motivated by watching The Biggest Loser every Tues. nite. It's on NBC in case you want to check it out. I Tivo the episodes so that if I want or need motivation, I can re-watch it. It stops me cold from going to the fridge. I watch what those people go thru and it reminds me where I have been and where I don't ever want to go again!! The other is rock and roll music. Don't quite know why that works , but it does. (not country).
I hope this helps you out, it's just what I've found works for me. Good luck!!

hi! welcome to the forum!

anything that you enjoy to keep your hands busy is a good idea! I love to cross stitch and paint, that does the job for me :D

I personally changed from food to getting myself some nice clothes, maybe some inexpensive jewellery, perfume, sometimes just a picture or something else decorative....basically just something that I like and wouldn't normally get. That's to celebrate and to treat myself for achievements and stuff. Also, on my big milestones, I'm getting new tattoos....which of course, isn't everybody's cup of tea. *lol*

As for comfort....I still eat occasionally, but I eat different things...veggies or fruit mostly. Other than that I find comfort in music, and sometimes just in a hot, relaxing bath, with candles and some nice scented oils or something. Basically as Korrie said, anything that you enjoy and that keeps your hands (and your mind) busy. Read a book, do some sort of arts & crafts, go get a manicure if you so desire. Anything that makes you feel better. :)
