Blueberries sink, I think.

Blueberries sink, I think.
i think the most amazing thing about blueberries... if you want to plant blueberry seeds (first of all... wow... they've GOT to be tiny), you cannot just stick them in the ground. you have to put them in your freezer for a week or two... only THEN will they germinate. nature is truly fascinating.

it was a fruitfest yesterday, but i still have some... float test coming up... around noon.

mindless task for the day... movies that take place around Christmas, but are not really about Christmas.

granted, some of these do not take place totally during the Christmas season,
but the timing of being around Christmas does have something to do with the story...

so far...

Stalag 17 (1953) - this one is a stretch, but i really like the movie.
We're No Angels (1955) - the Bogie version.
Desk Set (1957) - old school office parties... lol
Donovan's Reef (1963) - it has a Marx train in the closing scene...!
1941 (1979)

Trading Places (1983)
Die Hard (1988)
Die Hard 2 (1990)
Trapped in Paradise (1994) - arguably, this could be considered a "Christmas" movie

aside from Sci-Fi, most recent movies do not really seem interest me... my rule of thumb is that they cannot be primarily based on firearms, car chases or explosions... though there are a few exceptions.

Die Hard 1 is my favorite Christmas movie and the only one I watched with my entire family where everyone was in agreement afterward that it was an excellent use of their time.

Die Hard 1 is my favorite Christmas movie ...
as much as this sort of shoot-em-up movie isn't my favorite theme (unless they are new/ old westerns), the Die Hard series is one of the best where the sequels weren't a total letdown. BW made John McClane a character nobody could possibly hate.

Catch Me If You Can - partly anyway
Hanks and Walken are two of the best... not really a fan of LDC's overacting.
Rocky IV could have made the list, but in a similar vein, SS is ok, but i find his stuff poorly written.

more of a "my list" vs comprehensive.... but i do appreciate the suggestions.

finally finished making the soup today... went vegetable shopping the other day, wanted to hit the frozen stuff last (peas, corn, g. beans) and then completely forgot. the downside of the trip today, whole chickens... BOGO...! how could i pass up that deal.... ((bastards!))...:)

on my way to have a Peroni to celebrate Columbus Day yesterday, i ran into an alt-drinking excuse...

Oktoberfest.jpg

the better story was on the walk home, though... as i pulled a pair of sunglasses out of my pocket, i hear a shout out from a passing car... "hey. you dropped some money..!" ... sure enough i turned around and there was a $5 bill sitting on the sidewalk. ...once in a while you get a reminder that there are some fine people out there. :)

Nice picture! Do you live withing walking distance of the Bay?

Columbus day isn't a very big deal here, except that its a government holiday. I used to work with a guy in Genova and he lived across the street from what he called "one of the many birth places of Columbus". True or not there was a nice plaque on an old house.

I prefer Birra Moretti.

i'm within walking distance to the ocean, but it's a few miles over the hill to the bay, or at least places around the bay you'd want to go. fishing boats come into the bay close to me, so there are some great seafood places where it comes right off the boats daily. lower in the bay there is a lot more touristy stuff. fortunately a good deal of the south bay is protected from development. i believe there are a few endangered bird habitat/ nesting sites... well, at least for now.

Columbus Day is a getting a lot less trendy these days. i'm sure few people today ... aside from maybe the Knights of Columbus ... who actually believe Columbus "discovered" America.

well yesterday was a little different. got up around 8am and ate breakfast... maybe it was the 9-10 hours of sleep just before, but i was just a bit hungry, ... there is so much food here right now ... so, why not.

with two big bowls of soup yesterday, it was nice to see i'm still in the 160's. i know for sure i'm definitely not under-hydrated. 168ish seems to be my most stable current weight.

Its a big deal in Columbus, Ohio, and maybe in Columbus, Mississippi, Georgia, Montana, New Mexico, Nebraska, Texas, Kansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, and North Carolina.

Columbus's trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean were an important historical event, but I am not sure worthy of a US holiday. I agree with you, its not really credible to call them the "discovery" of America. In Virginia they celebrate the victory at Yorktown on the same day. That might be a more reasonable holiday.

makes you wonder how GW was the one who got the rep of "slept here".... :)

i believe Springfield still takes the top honor for most common city name... and don't tell the WH, but Clinton is pretty high on the list, too... lol.

my weigh-ins are getting to be as monotonous as the local weather forecasts... sunny and mild... boring, but i'll take it.

I used to live in a neighborhood called Clintonville. It was named for George Clinton, Vice President under both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, he is recognized as a important Founding Father. He was a general in the Continental Army during the Revolution, and though a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1776 he did not make it to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, too busy fighting. I suspect he is the reason we have a lot of Clinton named towns, Bill probably had little to do with it.

potted herb expansion continues... the new plant cluster in town... Fernleaf Dill...

rosemary is growing up... maybe going to snip the tops so it starts growing out a little more. like i did with the dill, i think i'm going to buy a few plants/ pot next time. it also loves the sun.

oregano is getting bigger... probably going on a month now...

oregano sez... "sun... bad... !"

need to find another herb plant that will do well in a very sunny location.
i'm out of even partly shady spots.

These look gorgeous! so fresh and full of promise of flavours to come. :)
