Flyer's diary

by the way... just in case anyone was wondering if i only have this one pair of sox... through an online screwup, a misdelivery which was delivered after a replacement was sent, and even another shipping fiasco, i wound up with 48 pair of these when the dust cleared...

i sure hope i don't run into any bison at Walmart ... :)

my 125 year old assault rifle.

i know there is a local store that sells "buffalo" steaks ... actually never have tried one.... or shot one.

Cool old rifle. I could get you to a heard of buffalo pretty quickly here, but you'd end up in jail if you shot one.

Buffalo is good meat and low in fat and calories. I eat it from time to time. It comes from domesticated farm raised buffalo, not wild ones. And of course what I call a buffalo is really a bison, not closely related to actual buffalo. I would not buy it if it costs much more than beef, they taste too much alike.

164.5 is good, you are well into the 160s now!

unbelievable... i got kicked off Facebook .... AGAIN.

if you refuse to give Facebook anything but your name, they will delete your profile. they only want people who's information they can exploit. my profile was deemed "suspicious" because i did not list any personal information, i had no friends, i had no interests... i must be a Russian spy, right?

still a while until breakfast... this could be a record day, but not really worried about it. such a bright sunny morning, ...feel like a really long walk.

.. football... seems too warm...
I agree, its hard to get excited about football in August, however my alma mater, LSU (rated #6) is playing Texas (#9) Saturday, I have to follow that one. Ratings this early in the season don't mean much... unless you're talking about Alabama.

what a beautiful day it was yesterday... unfortunately, moving out to CA when i was 32, i missed the surfing window...

this was a sad site, though...

hey kids... get out your credit cards ... now you don't even have to walk over to your friend's house to sit on your butt and play computer games... you can motor-scooter yourself. ... sad, sad, sad.

*sigh* ...

don't read too much into the lyrics... basically the title was sticking in my head this morning...

of note, though ... look at all those skinny kids...!
not sure which i'd rather have... that Rickenbacker or the exceptionally classic Marshall stack.

got a laugh the other day when i stopped by an American Eagle Outfitter store... figured i may as well try on some jeans even if just to see what size i am in pants that haven't been washed 100 times. the best i can measure these days is a 33" waist. still got a little gut there that probably adds at least an inch. so i started with 34" at the store. as soon as i tried them on, though, i had an immediate WTF moment. the waist was so stretchy i could pull it out a good 2-3" without even stressing the fabric. talking with the clerk there, he sort of smiled, too. ... "yeah, they're all made that way... sorry".

probably the handiest thing i have in my wardrobe is an old cloth tape. as the battle i went through with my T-shirts, i've started attacking the pants in my closet. one thing i noticed... all Levi 505's aren't created equal. on some 36" waist, i did find a few that measured out to 36.5" (i measured inside waist, center of button to center of button hole), but two measured 37.5".

unfortunately i only found one 35 x 34 in sizes i saved which actually measured out close to 35" waist. i remember 35" was always a hard size to find, but that was before the internet. as much as i like to shop locally, 20% off and free shipping was too attractive to pass up at the Levi site. at least the A-team didn't get this one. i'll probably hang on to a few 36" waists, but the larger ones will definitely make it over to Goodwill soon. i know my closet appreciates the weight loss, too... :)

I can't find a new pair of jeans that I like and that fit me in the legs that don't have an elastic waist now. Seems to be the way things are headed.

i can see the point... men typically gain weight around the waist first, as with women it is in their thighs (just repeating what i've read... no offense meant). if pant sizes grew in all dimensions linearly, the legs of 40+ waist sizes would look like oversized stove pipes.

the irony of dieting is that everyone seems to want to lose the weight they put on first.... first.

Definitely. I was thinking more along the lines it's a sign of the times and our collective increasing waist size but I suppose it's also a more sophisticated market accommodating body types and differences by gender. Combination of both perhaps.

finally finding some jeans i like (slightly baggy, cuffs... i find the new skinny jean look weird), decided to post "out the door" weight from now on...

171.5..09.12.19.jpg

i've had a bad diet week... a few days ago it was most of a medium pan pizza, ...so i'm sure i can fall back to 170- shortly even with the added weight. think it is a more honest weight... for maintenance... i'm sure i would agree that bone dry, first... well maybe 2nd thing in the morning is the better news when you are in losing mode.... :)

minced up the best i could and mixed one ghost pepper into an 8oz Veggie Cream Cheese container the bagel store makes up and sells ... wow... that was one hot/ spicy bagel i had to start off the day. the power of these peppers is truly amazing. i brought some out with me the other day to give away and wound up scoring a free pint after i gave a few to a curious patron. i've got to do these again next year... great conversation starters.

I like growing hot peppers, they give you more return for less gardening space than most anything. In your part of the country you should be able to grow peppers the year round.

the SoCal climate is great, but the shorter days still seem to trigger some sort of winter mode. hard to keep a lot of things from flowering and then dying off. going to VERY carefully slice open a few of the ghost peppers today and see if i can salvage the seeds.

with as steady a hand as i could summon, i managed to dissect ~50 seeds from one of the ghost peppers. now that i've done some reading on it, though, i will probably leave one or two on the plant past their ripeness. apparently the longer it matures, the more viable the seeds will be. i'll dry these up anyway. now have to figure a way to keep a couple of my fingers away from my face for a few hours. i just know i'm going to rub my eye inadvertently ... like that asteroid saying (which i HATE)... it's not a matter of if... it's a matter of when...!

Never tried a ghost pepper, but I've heard stories. I did once get a bottle of Dave's Insanity sauce, maybe a similar level of hotness?

I like and eat a lot of hot sauce, but not the super hot. My favorites are crystal and tabasco. Not in the ghost pepper range.

Best of luck with the ghost pepper, let us know how it turns out.
