Fluid around my knee, pain, and will this set me back?

Let me just preface this with I have had "messed up" knees my whole life. Even as a child growing up Catholic I remember the pain of having to kneel and stand over and over again, and I wasn't overweight.

Fast forward 30 years and the fact that I am 20% overweight (am at 159, should be under 130), I know my knees stand the chance of taking abuse from the added weight.

I thought I was doing really well, especially this week, I have exercised every day (mon thru Thursday). Yesterday I was commenting on how my knees where a bit stressed, and the right one in particular; after inspecting my knee I realized it is squishy around the outside of my knee cap. My husband said this was fluid. Yuck! So I am a bit sad as to what this may mean and I do not want to stop being active. I still did my exercise last night, made sure to cut out some of the moves that were giving my knee grief (like skipping (rope)).

So I have a follow up exam next week and I will ask the doc if anything needs to be done about this, but meanwhile I do not want to stop exercising, because I finally feel like I am building up some momentum and endurance to accomplish more with my workouts.

Any advice or cautions?

Uh, yeah, DON'T TAKE THE ADVISE OF RANDOM FORUM PEOPLE CONCERNING MEDICAL OPINIONS!
Since you've had knee injuries in the past, you probably know more than about this sort of thing.

I applaud your desire to continue exercising, but honestly, If you were a good friend of mine, or a relative, I would STRONGLY suggest that you stop exercising until after you speak with your doctor. But, then again, I'm not not familiar with knee injuries at all.

One thing that is probably the smartest thing you could do: Call the doctor's office and ask them your question!
