Fleur's Diary

Hello everyone,

I'm new here and this diary part of the forum really caught my eye. A little bit about me, I'm 21 female, 5'4", 170 lbs. My goal is to get back down to 150lbs,which is where I was give or take last summer. Also I just got engaged, so I really want to look beautiful for my wedding next summer.

I've began an exercise regimen, but struggling with my eating.

I hardly like any fruits or veggies. I like salad, but not much else. It seems like these are all anyone ever talks about. I need some suggestions on what I can eat that's healthy. I've pretty much dropped soda from my diet, except for a coke zero hear and there. I drink mainly water. I've been watching what I eat for the past few weeks and exercising but haven't lost anything!

I'm in a rut and really need to be pulled out of it.

Today for lunch I had 1/3 of a Jack's pizza, which was somewhere around 350 calories.
I had some low fat yougurt which was 90 calories.
Beef jerky- 280 calories
granola bar- 90 calories

Wow, thats only 810 calories. I've been trying to stay at 1200 calories.
I don't usually eat this small amount, if anything I go over where I'd like to be. I haven't really been calorie counting, just trying to eat less. However, I know only eating 810 calories won't help me lose weight.

If anyone has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hello Emerald!

Today was a good day until I went to work. I spent the morning with my fiance. I made up biscuits and gravy for lunch. It was yummy. Then we watched some episodes of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. Went to work and that's where the day took a turn. Got in trouble for something that wasn't a big deal. I work with my dad also, so next to hearing it from my boss, I had to hear it from him too. So frusterating.

But, finally the guy that works my shift showed up and cheered me up. For dinner a few minutes ago we had a Wendy's baked potato with sour cream and butter-370 calories. As well as a jr. cheesburger-270 calories. We also get something fun for Fridays. While this adds up to 640 calories, as far as a fast food meal it was very under the normal calorie content.

Wasn't able to get a good cardio workout in today, but will walk throughout the evening, as well as a 2mile power walk with my coworker.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Hi Fleur :D Welcome to the forum :)

If you haven't lost any weight over the past few weeks, I'd suggest counting calories properly every day. Its a bit tedious, but it does work. When I first started dieting I was eating porridge for breakfast every morning, estimating it to be around 350/400 calories, but as I was having a large portion made only with full fat milk, it was actually a whopping 815 calories!

I find that eating low GI foods really helps with my cravings. If I mess up for a couple of days with high GI foods, I find my cravings go through the roof.

Also, way back when I started my previous "successful" diet, I HATED all veggies. I forced myself to eat them though (tomatoes, cucumber etc...) and now I actually really like them. I am forcing crab meat and salmon upon myself this week :)

Your wedding is a great incentive :) You will look slim and beautiful :D x

Thanks overtherainbow!

I know I haven't been eating the greatest, even though my calories have been somewhat in check. I'm striving to eat healthier. I've just made a list of things to get at the store when I go shopping tomorrow.

Celery, grapes, cottage cheese, bran cereal, bonesless chicken breast, eggs, berries, green pepper, red onion, salad, and rice.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Also what do you use to help yourself count your calories, any type of online site that's free?

Thanks a bunch for all the encouragement!

:D

I use for calorie counting. They have every single food you can think of in their database. Although it weird.... when your not logged in you can choose the food, then change the amount of grams/mls, and say the time of day that you ate, when you are logged in you can only choose the portion size that comes up on the list of food. You can go on and off it all day and it saves what you eat, so I would suggest that you use it without registering.

It helps me if I plan out 7 meals for the week and then get all the ingredients for them.

Fell off the wagon for a few days. Having a rough time with it. All I want to lose is 25 lbs but it seems like it's the hardest thing ever! I feel like I'm just failing myself everyday.

I signed up for a 5k run/walk in September. I'm hoping by doing this, it will motivate me to exercise and get in shape for it. I ran cross country my junior year in high school and loved the race aspect of it. I know it's going to be hard training for it, but hopefully its the motivation I've been needing.

ugh, just got home from work awhile ago. Ate two pieces of leftover pizza and a bowl of cereal for no reason and now I feel awful.

Just took a picture of myself to remind me how awful I look. Hopefully it'll serve as motivation.. Be going to bed soon.

Sad, depressed, and in the dumps..

:) :) Welcome Fleur!!

If you have a smart phone..I love the Sparkspeople calorie counter app...its free and since my phone is always in my hand...it is now second nature to enter my food as I eat....it seems to help the "missing" of calories or the need to write in down and re-enter it...but no matter how you track...you should track...its benefits are immeasurable!! :) :)

Ugh! I wish I did, that would be so nice. But I'm just gonna have to do it the old fashioned way. Last night I took a picture of myself in shorts and a sports bra and realised I really needed to do this. My mom is overweight and if I ignore this, I'm going to be in the same boat healthwise. So i set my alarm for 8:30 and after hitting snooze twice crawled out of bed around 8:40 lol. Got dressed and went for a 10 minute jog around the neighborhood. I'm starting small so I don't discourage myself. I feel wonderful now. I planned out all my meals for the day yesterday.

So far today-

Breakfast: 2 pieces low calorie wheat bread with butter
1 egg scrambled.

Lunch will be a peanut butter and jelly on low cal wheat bread
cottage cheese, and yogurt.

Dinner will be grilled chicken tenderloins- those fresh tyson ones.
with white rice, yogurt, and grapes.

I've heard that bananas and grapes are some of the worst fruits you can eat because of their sugar content. I'm not big on very many fruits, but these are my favorite. Is it still ok to have a banana each day and some grapes?

Hey Fleur!

So, in looking at your posts, I think I see some areas where you could improve, but you seem to be getting better at counting calories and your motivation seems to be higher!

I would take stuff like white rice, biscuits, low-cal processed bread, and trade them out for other stuff. White rice can be easily replaced with brown rice, the only catch being that it takes a lot longer to cook. But I find if I put the rice on the stove first thing, before I start making the rest of the meal, it's ready by the end. Biscuits (although delicious) are usually made out of white flour, which turns to glucose very quickly in your body and gets absorbed as sugar. Something much less processed, like a biscuit made out of whole wheat flour. It will taste a little different but you will see that you will feel more full and you will stay fuller longer. Processing grains takes out a lot of the fiber, which swells in your stomach and intestines and gives (sorry for the visual) bulk to your daily bowl movements. In the mornings, instead of bread that comes in the nicely shaped processed loaf, go for smaller "whole wheat" english muffins or Wasa cracker breads. The word "whole" is very important. Companies in the U.S. can advertise their products as wheat, when actually it's just white bread mixed with enough wheat flour to give it a brown color so it looks like whole wheat bread. But they're not allowed to use the words "whole wheat" if it's not actually made from whole wheat flour. Same thing goes for phrases like "multi-grain", "honey wheat", "wheat", "9-grain", "honey oat" etc etc. Only buy things that say "whole wheat".

Bananas and grapes are really straight sugar, so it's best to limit them to once or twice a week. They don't have much fiber or anything, so beyond satisfying you immediately and leaving you with a sugar crash, they won't do much. Berries have a lot of fiber, and they are the best for people watching their weight. The fiber slows down the absorbtion of sugars into the bloodstream, so it doesn't leave you with a crash. You can also pair your banana with some protein like greek yogurt or peanut butter, but this adds quite a few calories. Make sure the jelly you use says "no sugar added" - it will be like pureed fruit, but it's not as high in calories or sugar as regular jelly. Or, one of my favorite things to do is use whole sliced strawberries or blueberries on a sandwich with peanut butter. It's like jelly but way healthier, and you'd be surprised at how good it tastes!!!

I know it's hard to incorporate vegetables if you don't really like them, but you can find ways to enjoy them. Try making a pasta salad with the recommended portion size (whole wheat!) but add all kinds of fresh sliced veggies! Chopped cucumber, grape tomatoes, a little red onion, and some fresh baby spinach all mixed together with a little parmesan cheese sprinkled on top drizzled with olive oil and red wine vinegar or low-cal italian dressing is amazing, and you really get a lot of veggies! Start out with a few at first, and as soon as you find out how good they are, you can mix a higher ratio of veggies to pasta. Salad are always a good way too. Things like spaghetti sauce can be made with corn, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, canned tomatoes (low salt), steamed spinach, etc and you won't even notice them because they're covered in yummy spaghetti sauce. Add in some ground turkey instead of beef and it will be a great low-cal sauce. Plus the whole wheat noodles and you will be much fuller than if you had used processed regular noodles.

I will post more later, but keep up the good work!!!

Chelsea_morning,

Thanks so much for all the helpful info! I've got some real work to do. But I feel today was a big step. Even if the things I'm eating aren't perfect, whether they're not whole weat, or the regular jelly. It's a good step for me. I don't usually eat breakfast, but found it really gave me a kick start. I ran today and I felt amazing. I just finished grilling my chicken for my dinner tonight outside and it was practically a workout since the heat index here is 106.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my diary, I appreciate it!

Well done on the exercise! Although you haven't done badly for the last couple of days, I thought I would rant at you a bit :)

You just have to get a bit more confident in yourself :( YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! If you look at the first page of my diary, you will see how hard I found it- It was hell. I didn't beleive I could do it. In my head, sucsessful diets were something that other, stronger people could do, but not me. Its hard completely change your way of eating, but you can do it, one meal at a time. Plan out all your meals and snacks for the week, go shopping. If you don't buy any bad foods, you can't eat them (obviously except parties etc...)

I promise you that once you get through the first few weeks of eating healthy foods, your cravings will have dissappeared loads, you'll be feeling great and glowing, and eating well will be second nature for you. Don't think that this struggle you are having now will be a lifelong thing, because it won't, it will get easier and easier till you find that you don't even want to eat junk all day. You will feel a bit sick that you did.

If I can do it, anyone can!!!! YOU WILL DO IT!

You're right, I'll admit I have terrible self confidence, but I'm going to change that!

I already don't think I could have gotten through today without this site. It keeps me responsible in a way. I want to be fit and healthy again, and I will do it.

It's truly amazing how fast you can fall...

But the day has gone well. My meals were great. I will be going on a 2 mile speedwalk in about an hour.

Gonna wake up bright and early at 7 tommorrow to go for a run, then taking my car in to find out whats wrong with my ac. Then meeting with a DJ at 10. No sure what the rest of the day will bring before work, but who knows.

Need to look up some foods that I like that are low in calories. Gonna need some variety to keep this going.

Thanks for all the encouragement! I will post my weight on friday. The last time I weight myself a few days ago I was 170lbs. Hopefully I'll see something positive on that scale!:smilielol5:

Ugh, just got hit with a craving. Drinking some water to help it subside. Already around 1500 calories for the day, so not sure what to do once I get home. Should I get a snack or just try not to think about it?

Sometimes when I'm having a craving and it's the end of the day and I know I shouldn't give in, I do something like paint my nails, or take a shower or go for a short ten minute walk... by the time I'm done focusing on something else, the craving is gone and I feel better about myself for having successfully resisted. Or you could pick up/make your own popsicles... I swear those are my go-to treat when my cravings just won't go. Fudgecicle makes a sugar-free popsicle that is pretty good. It's usually next to their full-sugar version.

I'll definetly need to do something like that. Thanks.

Woke up today at 7am went for a short run. Not really sure how farm I'm going, just trying to get in the habit of going everday. I think I ran a bit faster today than I did yesterday, so I feel good about that.

Went to get my car a/c fixed. Ended up shelling out $542. Tragic! But my car ac is so cold I could freeze meat in in there now, lol.

Had a bowl of bran ceral with milk for breakfast.

Lunch was at Camilles sidewalk cafe. Didn't plan this ahead of time, since I didn't know my car repair would take so long. After searching the menu I opted for 1/2 of a turkey sandwhich on wheat. With a small house salad. The sandwhich was good, but I forgot to ask for all the stuff I don't like on the salad to be taken off, so it wasn't very good.

Just got home a little bit ago, taking a rest until I go to work at 2:30. Need to look up online how many calories I ate for lunch and then figure out what I'll take to work for dinner.

My legs are sore and I'm tired, but I will be speedwalking 2 miles later tonight at work.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
