Welcome. Thank you for reading and allowing me to 'expose' my fitness and health flaws. I suppose through self-awareness can one arrive at some type of personal resolution or attempt of resolution in order to rectify the flaw.

I've been aware of my weight since I was in 4th grade when I was enrolled in a Mouse'ercize' class which took place in the school gym/cafeteria. I wore a black leotard and probably just danced and flailed around with the other kids to Disney music. :willy_nilly: I'm pretty sure it was my mom's idea.

As I grew older, I was the chubby girl in high school and stayed that way through graduation. Determined to lose weight, I began to walk a lot. I started out w/ a poor pair of shoes, some shorts and a tshirt and amazingly enough, I lost weight. Then again, I was 18 yrs old too and it was Phx where it was horribly hot and living made you lose weight. :flame:

I fluctuated a lot during college for several reasons: I took fat burners off and on throughout that time (which I'm convinced has messed me up to this day), I got pregnant and that messed up my hormones and weight. I didnt eat healthy either. Towards the end of college I was swimming 3-4hrs a day, popping fat burners, running at night, weight training too and I can guarantee there was little semblance of a balanced diet.

The military helped me square away good eating and exercise habits because it was a requirement and I had to report to someone about my weight and I had to fit into a uniform everyday (which is not comfortable when you're any weight over that afforded by that sized uniform) I also had access to a fitness center, a health center and group PT/friends. :gnorsi:

Now that I'm a Reservist, and married (which can be a total negative on healthy eating habits when not shared by ones partner) and working at home and going to school online AND in a foreign land, my body has taken a turn for the worst. I still have free access to a gym, I have a bike, I have a good pair of walking/running shoes, we play Badminton weekly and we walk at least 12-miles daily in every city we visit during our 4-day leaves.

In other words, this is a lifelong battle that I have taken for granted and neglected. I want to do better because my family has a history of breast cancer (maternal) and heart disease (paternal) I have a responsibility to take care of myself, not only for my husband, but for me as well. I'm not a woman who has obligations to others more than myself. I have the time, resources and means to do this. I get when you get past a point you wonder if its worth trying to go back....

IT IS!

This diary will journal my feelings, mostly those associated with points of the day that I find myself eating mindlessly, out of the box, while standing up, while in front of the tv, at the German restaurants and when my husband isnt sharing in the healthy eating habits.

I'll report my Nutridiary.com stats which are calories intake/burned, fat/chol/carbs/protein numbers.

I'll report my activities and how I felt while doing them. Were they worth the effort? Did I do enough? Did I cheat?

I will report my progress in being able to do a military PT of running, push-ups and sit-ups. Keeping in shape for just that alone is worth it to me.

Finally, I have 2-pairs of clothing items I want to get back into again. A pair of sage green pants and a lovely floral skirt from when I was stationed in FL 2002-03.

Tomorrow (Monday) is the first time I've worked out 'officially' since going on leave Dec 15th- 22-days of downtime. The most I've done for working out has been our 4-day trips to Barcelona and Brussels to include A LOT of walking and some bike rides.

Today during my 2.25 mile walk (43 minutes) (19 min mile, I have new shoes to break in) I was contemplating my plan of attack. I know how I am and I cant do this full blown, all systems on because I will burn out and get bored quickly. I've been the faithful gym goer who watches New Year's Resoluters join the gym, feverishly workout and then die off by the end of Jan if not Feb. Thats not me- I'll go the gym, its part of my life. I enjoy the environment; its like a 2nd home.

I'm reaching back to some things I learned....

Food/Nutrition
  • Week 1 Goal: Ensure I drink 4-.5L bottles of water daily. At 160lbs I should be drinking 80oz of water/day.
  • Week 2 Goal: (building on Week 1 Goal) Ensure I eat 3-servings of fruits AND veggies daily.
  • Week 3 Goal (building on Week 1 & 2 Goals) Ensure I eat 3-servings dairy and 5-servings grain daily.
  • Week 4 Goal: Right now I dont have one- suggestions?

Exercise
  • Week 1 Goal: 30-min cardio machines at gym 3x weekly. 2x weekly ride bike for 30-min before I get to the gym. Move back into weight training.
  • Week 2 Goal: (building on Week 1) Revise weight training plan for getting back into it.
  • Week 3 Goal: (building on Week 1 & 2) Incorporate 2x weekly Pilates and stretching.
  • Week 4 Goal: (building on previous weeks) Get to the pool.

I hate waiting 4-weeks to get to a routine but it takes that long to put on into place and make it stick... MUST MAKE IT STICK. I'm committed to 6-week periods of work in order to avoid plateaus and boredom.

Today, I tried to get rid of the holiday cookies and dont want them around the house (freezer) anymore!

Here's the Ugly on Me (I had my husband help and then I said, 'Thanks for helping me humiliate myself' and because he's watching the NFL playoffs he said, 'You're welcome' :toetap05:)
