Hi Kim, I do the elliptical mainly. But when I get my bike, I may start doing that, at least for my steady state cardio.

Well, it's off to the gym for Weights Day 3 (upper body), and then I'm going to lose a cool pound in 30 minutes -- at the bloodmobile, LOL.

protein shake eh ... or some reason that made me think of your body shaking up and down or side to side like dancing .. i guess that would be a protein shake eh!

LOL, by the time I'm ready for my protein shake, that sort of shake is definitely out of the question!

Overall, I think I did pretty good. The weight on the push press was light, but I'll raise it by 10 lbs. next time. The other weights were about right for this time. It was the tempo on the pec dec flye that made it a little harder than I thought it would be. The jump squats at the very end started to get tough, because my quads were still aching from DOMS.

Since I have tomorrow off, I thought I'd burn a few more calories, so I did 44 more minutes of steady state cardio - 30 minutes on the step mill and 14 minutes on the bike (gotta start getting my bike muscles in shape!). Burned another 700 calories, so my total output for the day was 1,062 calories.

Wow, I am JEALOUS! I didn't even get my butt on the elliptical in my own home. I've just been so busy with the baby and cleaning all day. Arrrrrrrrrgh. I am making excuses but I was so tired today. Sheesh I feel lazy after reading your post.

Well, that's one advantage of being an empty-nester! But dealing with your baby must burn a lot of calories, too.

Weight 233.2 - Round 5, Day 22. Hey! What gives! It's supposed to be a pint a pound, right? So my pint of blood yesterday should have been good for a pound, not a lousy 3 ounces! Oh, well, I'll get there soon enough. I still have 15 days to make my goal of 230, and my new exercise routine should help me a lot.

The DOMS has warn off now, leaving just a little soreness in the quads. With today off, I'll be fine by Friday to start all over again.

My food yesterday came to 2,346 calories:
Fat: 88 gm, 33%; 18 gm saturated, 7%
Carbs: 313 gm, 49%; 41 gm fiber
Protein: 96 gm, 15%
Alcohol: 0

Low on the protein, because I didn't eat a whole lot of meat yesterday. I had some tapioca pudding for dessert, and that added 50 gm to the carbs.

With my NARM of 2,381 calories, plus 1,064 calories form working out, I ended the day with a deficit of 1,029 calories, giving me an accumulated deficit of 6,183 calories for this Round and 2,004 calories for the month.

My daughter's coming down for Father's Day. I'm a happy camper!

Thanks, Steve. I hope that one day you will get to experience the joy that I have with my two kids. In the meantime, party hardy!!

Little Steves running around. Now THAT is a scary though. But one that I'm sure will come true sooner than later!

LOL, Little Steves are cute; it's the teenage Steves (and Stephanies) that are a scary thought! But you'll have plenty of "cute" years to prepare you for the "tunnel".

Uh oh! I can't imagine my little sweety would EVER be a problem.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao:

I wish..

LOL, Just Wait! :D
One day, your sweet child, who has put you on a pedestal all these years, will suddenly think you're weird, uncool, and abysmally ignorant. Then for the next 6 years, you will slowly regain your "intelligence."

But in the end, it's all worth it.

Isn't it funny how the older we get the wiser our parents and even grandparents appear? Once I hit my 30's, so many ideas that they had that seemed sooooo "lame" suddenly made sense. I even find myself quoting my grandmother sometimes. Heck, I think I'm morphing into my grandmother... the other day we were talking about being prepared for hurricane season and I actually heard myself say I was thinking about buying a generator this year in case the "icebox" went out during a storm. Icebox?

LOL, I'm old enough to have actually had an "icebox" in the house. I think by the time I was five, the term "refrigerator" was coming into common use.

Hi Tom! Thanks for visiting my diary this morning and the get well wishes...I am feeling much better...and it feels so great to be back on my workout routine ( I know you can relate to that :) ) When are you getting your bike? (sheesh....did I miss that whole subject somewhere...I may need to go back and read earlier posts).

It looks like your new routine is working out good for you! Hope you are having a good day. Glad to read that your daughter is coming to see you for Father's Day!

Yeah, it's a few pages back. To make a long story short, we selling my wife's car, and I'm giving her mine. I'm going to go car-free. My bike should be in by the end of next week. I'll need a week to get used to it, though, since it's a recumbent. I can't ride a regular bike because of some neck surgery 15 years ago.

Well, that is a big change! That is so cool! :) Post a pic when you get it! I used to use a recumbent bike in the gym years ago...and I liked it. I just could not stay on a regular bike at the gym for long without my butt going numb! :) My folks outfitted the bikes they gave us (mountain bikes, actually) with better seats and other cool accessories, so we should be set.

Weight: 233.2 - Round 5, Day 23.

Food yesterday was tops on the quality scale, 5/5, and came to 2,064 calories:
Fat: 45 gm, 19%; 7 gm saturated, 3%
Carbs: 270 gm, 48%; 37 gm fiber
Protein: 155 gm, 30%
Alcohol: 3gm, 1%

Lots of protein from the mahi-mahi I made for dinner, and the canned trout and the chicken burger for lunch.

I'm really, really looking forward to getting my bike in. We put the ad for the old car in autotrader.com last night, and I hope it sells quickly -- that's what's paying for the bike, after all.

Since you're "laid back" on a recumbent, you can't push on the pedals the way you would on a regular bike. It seems cadence is the key to getting up hills. Lots of new muscles are brought into play. So far, though, it's all theoretical. I want to put it into practice!

I'm not upset about this plateau, er, Round, even though I think it may be the cause of my missing my goal for the month. I still have a shot at getting down to 230.0 by the end, but frankly, I doubt I'll make it. But even if I stay right where I am, I'm still on my long term schedule. Not only that, but I notice the belts I bought last month are both getting a bit looser.
