Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Hi Felici, Val, Sophie & Cannon - thanks for dropping by!
My first century ride in July left me with cramps for 2 days. This one - I didn't get a single cramp. I did go up to 224 lbs. on Monday, but today I was back down to 221.6. That's really wierd -- I wonder if it has something to do with your body supercompensating on water after a long ride like that, even though I did take care of my hydration and electrolytes.

Yesterday I had a recovery ride of 28 miles - my quads were still sore, so I really took it easy, at a 15.5 mile pace.

Hi Tom!! Great job staying up on the bike riding!! I'm sure your weather is nice there!

That is odd that your weight is still fluctuating so much even now, it seems as if you would be down a little more to me, you ride all the time and do so well on your calories, hmmmmmmm maybe it needs a little mix up to get it roaring again, do you think your body has grown accustom to your workouts now?? Just an idea.

How's the elbow?? Is it still hurting?? My hubby is currently wearing a THUMB brace, LOL LOL He dislocated it during his last football game, I swear we must have every known brace there is in our house, he has a wrist one, an elbow one, a thumb one and a knee one, LOL LOL Oh and one that goes around the lower back I think, GOSH I think it's time for my H to slow down you think??? LOL

Well, I hope your scale starts moving on down again, you work so hard you certainly have earned it!! Enjoy your day!

Well I hope everyone here has a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm taking a week off for a much needed vacation. We're going up to San Francisco and having TDay with our kids up there. We originally thought they would be bringing their SO's, but as it turns out they both broke up last month, so it'll just be the 4 of us. No matter, we get along so well, and we'll have a lot of fun.

This weekend I passed the 3,000 mile mark on my bike. For the 3rd time, I went up Torrey Pines, and I was amazed how much "easier" it was. I had my pulse rate at 162 (95%+) for a full 15 minutes, but I kept a steady rate of around 8 mph up the 6 to 8% grade.

On the way back down I had to apply the brakes quite a bit. I was up to 43 miles per hour but I was a bit nervous about going any faster because there was a fair amount of wind and the road is kind of rough. Good thing I did that -- at the bottom of the hill I heard a big racket around my rear wheel - my rear disk brake came apart. The tire was OK, but the brake was hosed, so I limped at 8 mph to the nearest bike shop, where they took care of it.

I did the climb after already going 55 miles at a pretty fast clip, so my thighs were really toast. Lots of cramping that night, but the next day I was OK again.

Today I'm taking my bike in for a much needed tuneup. They'll tighten everything up and replace the chain. That should be good for the next 3,000 miles.

My weight got up to 224 again 3 days ago, but now it's back down to 220.6. My wife is astounded that I'm not losing weight with all the biking I do. She sees what I eat and thinks something is wrong with me.

I don't think so. My metabolism is probably a bit on the "slow" side, but it really proves that you can't keep your weight under control with exercise alone. Even to maintain, you have to watch what you eat very carefully. That's why I think weighing yourself every day is a good thing for me. When I creep up, I subconsciously cut back and probably even exercise a bit harder.

Anyway, I hope all of you have a great week -- see you when I return!

Hey Tom. Good to see you.

I agree with you about how weighing can help. Even though we all have to work out the frequency to suit ourselves and the idiosyncrasies of the scales we use, it's very helpful to have some warning if our weight is moving up.

I hope you have a great time at Thanksgiving. Nice for you to have a break after this long time of intensity. :)

Have a GREAT TIME with the kids!! I wish I was taking a week off myself. :hurray:

I know exactly what your going through with all the biking and no weight loss, It's happening to me too, but instead I'm just doing a LOT of gym time and busting my butt in the cardio department, and nothing is moving on my scale either. I think we are building up some serious muscle currently, and in a few weeks, we will see the scale showing us just how good we really are doing. I'm patient, I can wait!!

Have fun sweetie!! Can't wait to hear all about it!! There are no girlfriends coming to our get together either, as break ups seems to be the thing lately in our area as well. Oh well, at least they are happy

Tom I'll definitely go to the Bay Area if you're up there. We can have dinner and WINE with the family if I'm not imposing, of course! Any day is fine! PM me your number!!!

Hello Tom,

This is Paul you may remember from some months back. Anyway I got my journal going again go check it out and you may remember me.

SO you seem to be doing great Tom, since the last time I read your journal you have improved a lot. Good job man I got respect for you keeping it going strong even til now.

Happy to be back and hopefully back in contact with you I'll be checking in on you.

dont worry about the weight loss, throw in some more water into the mix and sit back and start enjoying your life.

you have done a super job so far - the last bit does take a while so you may as well sit back and enjoy it.

I know i sure am :D

TomO, if you read this, I hope you're doing well and that you're still exercising and watching what you eat. All too many people leave here because they give up and slowly get into their old habits. But others leave or take a break because they HAVE A DAMN LIFE! ha ha. I hope its the latter dear heart. We miss ya!

Hey hey How about those DEMS!

Yeah, I was think the exact thing as Cita! I was meaning to pop by last week, but got to busy. I hope your doing well, and maybe the next time you pop your head in you will be telling us your down 10 lbs. Your a riding maniac, so I'm sure your still losing!! Miss ya a lot!

I bet Tom's doing well and working hard and still biking, it's been pretty dry this winter (although he might be cutthroat and ride in the rain anyway) ;)
