First diet ever

Yay for plateau breaking! And great work building up strength and stamina, you must be doing something right :)

I'm going shopping for yam spaghetti and soy meat today. But I've been living on beans and cabbage. Getting tired of those two things.

I know this post is over a month old but I'm just now seeing this journal for the first time. I just have to know...

What is yam spaghetti?

Other than that, congrats on breaking into the 100's. It's always nice to see results on the scale. For some reason, physical changes always seem to feel more like an accomplishment when there's a nice, lower number on the scale that's paired with them.

yam spaghetti is also known as shirataki spaghetti, It's got volume and fiber but it is zero calories. It's kind of nice when you want to stop your hunger but already ate all your calories or just want a buffer. I eat it sometimes and It actually helps!

195 pounds and going strong. I'm gaining muscle too I think look at the difference between 210 pounds and 195! 37 pounds down and all this on weight gain notorious drugs like Depakote and Risperdal. The drugs are working better now and I feel great! Stay tuned for next week when I get my blood pressure taken. It should be down to normal levels maybe! (Cut back on coffee and smoking too I only chew now and not much but this should help BP as well!)

Good work on cutting back on the smoking and the weight loss. Have you been tracking body fat percentage/lean body mass since you started? Another great way to track progress and make sure you're preserving muscle as you go.

does tracking that stuff require special tools? I'm kind of trying to save money at the moment.

Dude, you're killing it. Congrats! How are you cutting so much? Is this all diet and exercise? Are you on a special diet? What kind of workout do you do?

Since I've started I've probably been on like 10 different kinds of diet. I started Keto, then I went to calorie counting, then I started working out more, this week I'm going to try higher carbs along with calorie counting still. See if it helps my energy level so I can make it through another week of weight loss without getting light headed. (I carb reloaded on super bowl too.) I just keep tracking my BMR and eating a number of calories that will make me lose the weight I want. People say changing diets mid-step and cutting too few calories isn't good, and it might not be. Even for me (I'm pretty numb to being uncomfortable) I get sick sometimes and have to eat a lot to bounce back. I find carbs is usually what is missing. I've read that there are parts of your brain that only use glucose and can't use ketones so I just eat some carbs and I usually feel better. Check back with me after this week to see if my experiment with higher carbs works.

Hi!

I used to do the whole eliminate calories, food exchanges, you name it, but it always ended up in me starving all the time. For me, once I'm hungry, I start thinking about food all the time, and I end up putting the weight back on and more. But I've recently learned and implemented a really effective way of losing inches without starving, and I still feel super energetic. I have almost reached my goal, and I'm really excited about that. I'd love to share it with you. It involves eight components and when followed, the results are phenomenal. You can read my story in Facebook. My page is: Lean and Healthy For Life

I wish you the best of success!

Joan

Gotta respect that discipline.

My biggest issue is balancing diet with work performance and emotional stability. I can restrict calories and put myself through discomfort and endure it on my own. If that is all I am doing with my life, I can do it, and I've done it successfully in past phases of life. But if I have to also perform at work and be a calm emotional support to family, it's a lot harder. My brain doesn't function as well with fewer calories. And I get a lot more stressed forcing myself through caloric restriction and regimented exericse and am less "chill" when trying to help family members.

What do you do for work? Do you find cutting the sugar impacts your brain functionality or ability to do your job? Do you have any tricks (e.g. certain snacks, extra caffeine, etc.) to help manage work performance?

What do you do to stay calm and manage stress while dieting? Do you find it has any impact on your social interactions, and if so (or not), how do you manage it?

I decided I was starving, yah I had no energy and was really grumpy on such few calories. I kind of realized I was too active during the day (Because of my increased exercise and activity level during the day) to be on 1500 calories a day. So now I count to 1500 and then I eat when I feel my energy level go down or when I get foggy headed. (I don't eat very much more though I count those too to make sure). Yah having low energy and being grumpy is a sign of slowing metabolism I'm thinking. You will burn just as much fat at a good functioning level as if you are starving so might as well eat a bit more. I'm currently disabled as I was diagnosed with schizophrenia a few years back. I gained a lot of weight because of my medications. I'm just starting to get back on track. I'm feeling a lot better these days and starting to get my life back together.

My cousin (who's also schizophrenic) gained a ton of weight on those meds too. They also sap her energy. It seems hard to overcome that weight gain and lethargy, like swimming against the current. Good for you for taking your life into your hands and working hard to find a balance and burn off the weight!
