Figuring it out as I go, I hope.

Hello all!
Been checking this place out the past few days and finally decided to register and start posting. I do so much better with tasks when there are people around to give me input and hold me to the line.

I'm Jae, i'm 25 (on July 10th, woo) and i'm from Indiana. Been married almost 6 years, and I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter. I'm a stay at home mom.

I currently weigh in at 230lbs. I'm 5'6" and have always leaned more towards the 'chunky' side of the scale, even at my lowest weight of 160. Half of my family is reallly big and short and the other half is really thin and tall. I got the short and fat genes. :)

I was doing good at holding 160lbs til I got married then I shot up to 200lbs, got pregnant, went up to 240.
After I had the baby I breastfed and craved healthier things and dropped down to 180. Unfortunately, I didnt try to hold on to the loss and I have since gone up to 230!
My problem isnt so much overeating, I only eat about once or twice a day which is bad. And being stay at home, I dont move around much.

My clothing size is 18/20 depending on the maker.

160lbs at age 17

200lbs at age 20

230lbs at age 25

I'd like my weight to be in the 140 to 150 range.

I've had a membership to the YMCA for the past two years, and havent taken advantage of it, which is terrible on my part.
I plan on using some of the diet and nutrition plans the YMCA offers. They're inexpensive and will probably help me out a whole lot. I know close to nothing about exercising and weightloss. Other than the obvious stuff, haha.

My husband is also about 50lbs overweight. We can never seem to get on the weightloss page at the same time and cant seem to help eachother out.

But i'm sooo damn tired of being fat. I'll have such a great figure if I can just shed the pounds. Although losing 80 to 90lbs seems like a crazy goal.

If I can think of anything else I will add it here. :)

hi Jae! welcome to the forum.

a lot of people have posted their sorts of diets and nutrition plans in their diaries, so if you browse around i'm sure you'll find something that would fit into your lifestyle...or combine and alter a few to fit you and your husband.

80 to 90 lbs does seem a bit overwhelming in the beginning! you can break your weight loss goals down into mini-goals, to make it seem less overwhelming...like "i want to lose 15 lbs in 2 months." aim to lose 1-2 lbs a week and pick a specific date you want to lose it by and weigh yourself then...then set another mini-goal!

i'm not sure if it's possible, but maybe you and your husband can hit the gym together. set up an hour or so playdate for your daughter or take her to grandma's house if at all possible and you two can go to the gym. some gyms also have a 'daycare' like service, where there are babysitters to entertain your children while you're working out. if you and your husband can't work out together, maybe find a gym buddy...it makes it harder to skip the gym if you know your friend is there waiting for you and you don't wanna let them down!

just a few suggestions...hope some of this helps.

good luck on your weight loss journey! you can do it! :)

Hi Jae.

Don't think of 80 lbs as an overwhelming goal. I lost it ... you can too. :) It actually helps that your husband wants to lose weight as well, since you can both eat healthily.

I'll share my philosophy with you: I don't believe in diets. :) Most people start diets with the idea that they have to be restrictive and with the idea that at some point they can END the diet. Both of those things just lead to either giving up, or gaining the weight back when they go back to regular eating habits.

What I do is try to eat as healthily as possible 80%-90% of the time. For me healthy means:
cutting out packaged and processed foods as much as possible
avoiding artificial ingredients, preservatives, and chemicals
eating real, fresh foods, seasonally
focusing on veggies, lean proteins, fruits, grains, and healthy fats, in that order
eating at least one meatless meal a week
allowing myself one "treat" meal per week (where I don't count calories)

I keep myself around 1600-1800 calories a day and try to make sure I get 40% of those from carbs, 35% from protein, and 25% from fat. I'm not always successful at those percentages, but I get as close as I can.

I work out 5-6 days a week on average. I try to weight lift 2x or 3x per week, and I fill in around those days with running (right now I'm training for a 5k). I spend about an hour in the gym a day, total. I'm not a big believer in the whole "gotta work out 3 hours a day" mindset. If you work out right, you should be able to knock it out in an hour or less - unless you just enjoy the workout, in which case ... go for it! :)

Hope that helps some. :)

Hi, Jae! Welcome! Pictures definitely help. I took them when I started and plan to take them every 20 lbs. I am also trying to lose 80 lbs. Good luck!
