Fighting The Flab..

I recently started a good diet and started a weights program to build some muscle and get more definition. The thing is I need to lose an inch or two from my stomach and I don't think my 30 mins of running 3 times a week is really making much difference.

Should I increase the cardio and reduce the weights to burn more fat and then look to increase the weights in a few months time when I have trimmed up a little?

Your advice is appreciated..

First of all, I would not reduce your weight training. Weight traning increases your metabolism. The more muscle on your body, the more fat your burn, even if you're sitting down. What type of weight program are you doing ? Are you doing combination exercises ( with weights) or isolation ? You can increase your cardio workout by performing HIIT, your cardio workout would be shorter, but more effective to burn fat. That is my opinion. I'm sure I'll get an earfull from other members. Now HIIT is an advanced type workout, if you are fairly new, forget HIIT at this time. You can incorporate interval cardio training into your workout, this is basically a less intense form of HIIT. For interval training, you would just vary the speed at which you are exercising. For example, if you're running, you would probably start out walking briskly to get warmed up, then you could go to a jog for a spell, then back to the brisk walk, then go to a run (not full speed), then back to a jog and so on. I hope I wrote that so that you can understand it  Also drink plenty of water. You mentioned your diet is good. Just remember your diet plays a big role in how much bodyfat you have. Maybe that will give you a starting point. Best of luck to you.

That is HIIT.. but good post.

Yeah stick with the weights and change your cardio, HIIT is good, but what about your diet?

Some changes in your diet could make a major difference in your body, have you been keeping track somehow? Could you post your diet, just an approximation?

Hmmmm

I was under the impression that doing HIIT you would go all out during portions of the training and interval training was not that intense, i.e, vary speeds, but do not max out at any time.

How long have you been doing this new routine?

It sounds like you need to just stick with it and have patience.
Unfortunalely it takes longer to lose fat than it is to gain it.

You mention a "good diet". What do you mean?
Try reducing the size of your meals and eating 6-8 small (the size of your fist) meals throughout the day. This will help.

J;)
