Feeling weak at start of workout

I spent 2 years struggling to lose fat - then finally 'came into the zone' of dieting about 8 months ago, and went from 224lbs to 194lbs, no idea of BF% change but I look like a different man. My secret? Getting dumped by the girlfriend that wanted McDonald's every night, amongst other things.

I've been lifting on and off for a couple of years, never really got into it seriously but I'm currently at the beginning of my first ever muscle-bulk,

My 9-5 office job dictates the only time I get to work out is in the evening, normally at about 8pm, long after I've had dinner.

Trouble is, whenever I get started on my FBW, I start to feel very, very tired after just the first few reps. I normally go for about 15 minutes tops, then sit down for a rest - and give up.

Any tips to combat this? Any foodgroups or types of carb or energy soruce I should be eating beforehand?

All advice appreciated.

Good job on dropping to McDonalds...but what are your eating habits now? What are some typical meals for you? Eating a big meal diverts bloodflow to your stomach so if you are eating a big dinner prior to working out, then that can be the issue. Have you tried having a light snack prior to working out right after returning from work, or while commuting home? I prefer not eating a full meal until after my workout (more due to cramping concerns than anything).

What about working out in the morning? You say 9-5 job. What kind of commute do you have? When do you awake, when are you out of the house and what time do you arrive at work? Is it possible to use your AM energy to get a good workout in?

Make sure you have a great breakfast in the morning, and each while at work. If you are able to snack at your job, have some nuts or something. Make sure you get lots of carbs in your dinner too if you work out shortly thereafter. Try drinking green tea or a coffee shortly before working out too. Caffeine will plain old give you more energy to go, help you recover faster, and increase the rate at which your blood glucose can be recharged (not sure on how much it helps blood glucose, as studies that show this effect have used very high doses)

Priorities:

1.) Make sure nutrition is up to par
2.) Sleep

If those two things are dialed in and you still feel tired,

Warm up right, have some caffeine.

Still tired,

See doctor

Some nice advice there. I dont know about the caffeine though i dont really like that...

I sometimes feel weak before workouts on rough days but then about 20 minutes into the workout i really forget about it and get on with the daily workout!

Good Luck!
