Feeling Ill After Workout.

Hi there,

Im male 31years old,
Smoking for 15years
Drinking on weekends and during week for football games,
weight 11/5 stone
Height 5ft 10

I used to be fit and active, but now in a desk job and do little excersise, im now getting to a stage where i want to quit smoking and bring my drinking habbit down, and have started trying to excersise and do weights, the problem is after i do weights and work out, my arms shake and i feel ill in general, dizzyness, my body feels totally knackered and can barley move afterwards and get palpatations, ive been to doctor, who has given me a cardio work out and had blood tests, all came back clear and fine, and said its cause im so unfit,
My question is, is this normal for people who have not excersised for years, and what would be the best routine to start off with, and what should i be eating, at the moment i eat alot of takeaways, although i do alot of home cooking with fresh ingredients, but everything i eat is spicy,
can anyone please give me some sound advice/ information what i should and should not be doing and how much excersise to start off with.
any inforamtion would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, Andy.

Hi there Andy,

I would say if you're feeling that ill after just starting to workout, then you're really going at it too hard. Many of my clients have to be reigned in to start with as there really is no need to 'beast' yourself if you've just started.

If you were one of my clients i would be getting you to do the following:
1. Ditch the takeaways completely
2. cook everything from scratch - just getting more organised will save you time, money and effort - make larger batched of soup, bolognese, chilli, homemade burgers etc so you don't have to keep making stuff every night and freeze the extras so you have spare food in the freezer when you get home from work.
3. up your intake of fresh vegetables, leafy green and salads, (I can hear you sighing "its boring!" but its only boring if you let it be boring. Your tastebuds will adjust to fresher food but it will be strange after being accustomed to the artificial flavours in takeaways (its why they're so damn addictive!)
3. exercise - start with 3 x 12 of the following exercises, no weights, just bodyweight. add 5 mins cardio at the end.
squats, pushups, bent over flyes, dips and plank.

that should get you off to a good start
good luck
jenni
