feeling ill after exercise

Hey everyone, I had some basic questions that may be normal or... may not. Until about four years ago I was in awesome shape. I was in the army, 6' and between 180 -200 lbs. I could run five miles, etc. I went to iraq and came back and completely lost myself, junk food, alcohol. Until recently I bordered on alcoholism.

Knowing I need to get myself back together I've started exercising again. The problem is that everytime after I lift some light iron or go for a jog I just feel "blah" the kind of blah you feel after you just ate at burger king and say 'damn' or the yuck the morning after a night of drinking but not being hung over.

I'm wondering if this is normal. I know alcohol is fat soluable so is the gross stuff in my body just breaking down and reentering my system for one last fu? Thanks in advance (btw, currently I'm just over 240, goal is backb close to 200)

What kind of exercises are you doing exactly?

Do you have a pre-workout meal?

You seem to be bonking, which means you have no glycogen or blood glucose stores, in which case you are having a normal reaction.

My guess is you aren't eating properly for the kind of workout you are doing.

What is your nutrition like?

Eric is right to mention your diet, also have you jumped in where you left off? if so slow down a sudden bout of strenuous(sp) exercise after being sedentry for along time can be a massive shock to the system. Don`t forget you`re carrying an extra 40lbs plus now.

Good luck with the new you

Sorry for the horrible typing on the first post. I was using my phone to post that. If the exercise is in the morning I generally have not ate before I do my exercise which consists of anything between curls (30lb, 10 reps, 3 sets), pushups, situps, overhead lifts using dumbbells (can’t recall the name of the actual exercise), etc. I keep it light since my body wears down faster now. I try to do about 30-45 minutes in the AM about 3 times a week. I usually shower shortly after (5 minutes after workout) and then eat a breakfast consisting of something along the lines of two eggs (cooked), a couple pieces of toast and a slice of bacon (bacon only once or twice a week) or any combination of that. Even after the food though I still feel kinda’ blah.

I exercise in the evening too usually an hour or so before dinner, two or three hours after I’ve ate anything else. When I do evening exercise it’s usually a jog which includes up hill running (no option based on where I live) for about two miles mixing some up hill jogs and the straight roads between. I’d say I run about 1.5 – 2 miles on those evenings. The more hills I do, less I focus on distance. The less hills, more distance. I try to mix it throughout the week. More hills one run, less the next, etc.

You may be right about the food issue from the sounds of my dieting times. I’ll attempt to have maybe the couple pieces of toast before the workout and the eggs after. Thanks.

You could try swapping your workouts around..ie-cardio in the morning and weight training in the pm after you`ve fuelled your muscles.

Personally i do`nt do any form of exercise whether it be cardio or weights on an empty stomach.
