Fat Sick and Nearly Dead questions

so i just netflix'd Fat Sick and Nearly Dead it's a documentary where a overweight guy with a skin condition goes on a 60 day vegie/fruit juice fast and looses like 70+ lbs and gets off all his meds etc. it also follows a bigger guy with similar issues and so normal people all praising a 10 day juice fast for making them feel better.
i realize the idea of fasting to cleanse and such is largely hokum but i do have to say it was quite a powerfully inspiring movie depite kinda feeling more like a juicer infomercial on reflection anyway,

most weight loss forums i see stuff about this movie say that youll loose more muscle then fat and im wondering the guy definitely lost fat it and doesn't look like mostly muscle loss how is this possible?

other complaints i here is you would lack fiber and such from juicing it and your missing other vitamins etc
so thought to myself why couldn't this diet work if you say blended instead of juiced and add protein powder and maybe a multivitamin or something

I'm not trying to advocate for this diet but is see movies or even youtube posts of peoples successes with this even though its supposedly bad for you and I wonder how wrong it can be especially if you tried to eliminate its shortcomings

You're talking about an extreme here. Of course the guy would have lost weight. He'd have lost the same weight if he'd just cleaned his diet up, but didn't starve himself.

He did lose muscle. There is no way he hasn't. How do you know what he lost?

You can't eliminate the shortcomings of starving yourself, and that is all that a fast really is for your body.

true i don't know what the dude lost it could have been mostly muscle but afterwards he seemed less skinny fat and more... i wouldn't got as far as buff but you could notice muscles

i guess us big people have allot of muscle we can comfortably loose

so even though after the 1st 3-4 days people mention there not hungry, they are starving? how can they tell? and if they can't tell is it such a bad thing?

Hey all,

Hope your well.

I'm not sure about this diet but I fast twice a week for 24 hours whilst weight training (no cardio) and have reduced my waist from 34" to 32" without loseing any muscle.

I'm no longer dieting but I continue to fast once a week...

Cheers,

Mark

You could see the muscle because it was hidden by layers of fat before. And the muscle you are losing is not necessarily something like the muscle at your arms and your legs - your body has a lot of muscles that aren't visible, and you wouldn't have any clue if you lost any of them.

Take your heart muscle, probably THE most important muscle in your body - if you're overweight, there's already more stress on it than there should be. And now you cut off the energy it needs to maintain working the way it should, and possibly weaken it. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not take the risk.

I have been meaning to watch Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. I watched "Fat Head" which was an interesting documentary answer to the famous "Super Size Me". I actually really liked Fat Head and looked more into losing the grains from my diet and my daughter's diet too after watching it. Read some Gary Taubes as well.

I personally don't like any eating plan that claims to be the answer and is completely restrictive. I'm gonna give FS&ND a watch as soon as possible to compare.
