Fat guy to fit. My journey....Join me

Hello all,

I started June 15, 2013 when I couldn't fit into any new shirts, and didn't want to buy from the big and tall section. I decided right there and then to start losing weight, and get back on track.

Since June 15, I have lost 30 LBS. I continue to walk between 4-5 miles a day (bad back, can't run), and will do this until my goal is met. I started at 268, and my goal is to get to, get to 180. According to the BMI calculators I have seen, that should be my goal.

Today I did another 5 miles, and it feels great!

My diet consists of complex carbs, fresh fruits and vegetables, and all sources of protein. I have tried to consume foods that have more grams of protein than carbs, that seems to be a combination that works for me. No breads, milk, or simple carbs.

Wish me luck!

Welcome aboard and congrats on the progress so far!

Can you back handle inclines while walking? I can't imagine you get too many long flat straight-aways in Colorado. I've grown to very much enjoy mountain hiking. Though as your season for that ends, mine will just have begun.

According to my GPS, the total change is 45 feet. Not much. I used to work right next to a mountain, so at lunch I would get some hiking in. It's amazing how hard it is at first, but if you do it daily, it gets much easier.

Today, I went nearly 6 miles, and, yesterday didn't work out due to a sore throat. It's the worlds best anti-depressant as well, when you can get a good work out in, early in the morning, the whole day goes better. Started at 5 AM today. Nice! Getting to the point my pants and shirts don't fit the same. The 38 waist is getting baggy, it feels awesome.

A friend send me this story about a woman who lost 88 LBS over a year. . She used the Paleo diet, and ate less than 1400 calories a day.

Welcome and congratulations on your success so far! It sounds like you have a rock solid plan going.

So Col-o-RAID-o or col-o-ROD-o?

Ah, size 38 jeans... such happy memories. I'm rockin' the 44s right now, soon to be a 42, then 40...

Nice that to have access to great hiking. Is your 45' change a net change? How much up and down do you do in those miles?

True what you're saying about it getting easier, I do laps on my hill in the back yard every Sunday. Used to be walking up and down, but now I'm interspersing an uphill sprint on every third lap. I haven't actually measured the hill, but I know it used to wipe me out just to walk up it, and now I'm averaging 50 seconds per lap (down and then up).

Keep up the good work! Check out Nerd Fitness for some good stories.

Guys, I am still a little new.

What is the stuff you guys put in your signature line?

8/27: 327.4 lbs, 30.3% BF 9/3: 322.6, 30.0% BF
and
SW (July 1, 2012) = 375, CW = 229, GW = 185. Next Milestone: lose 150 lbs, ETA = September 9, 2013.

I assume the SW is starting weight? What is CW? GW?

Still learning, and what to contribute.

I saw <link removed> this ad while on this forum. Has anyone actually tried this type of thing? Is it just a gimmic?

BigBelly, I haven't read your diary, but I can answer your question;

SW= Starting weight. CW = Current weight. GW = Goal weight.

As for the ad, it's probably a gimmick, these things don't work.

On a related note, the problem with using nuts as snacks is that they have a lot of calories, and you can easily eat over 500 in just one sitting if you are careless.

Can you let us know where you saw it - as it would have been removed if the mods had seen it...

Just click on the little triangle with an exclamation mark and we get rid of advertising like that. Websites with 'buy now' like that always break the rules.

I will take it out of your posting too...

It looks quite high in fat to me with 40% of your sat fat and 240 calories in a single serving of two cups... I could get 20g protein in a lot healthier of a way... My yoghurt gives 10.3g protein for 57 cal and 0g fat for instance...

Thanks guys. I see the mod took down the link. I figured it would be approved because it appeared on this exact page as I am typing this. It was a protein based Reeces peanut butter cup. Anyway, yea, one of my weaknesses for sure.

Rough weekend for me, I got sick. I am down to 235 which is great, but for the wrong reasons. I had to leave our church service early due to illness. I don't workout on Sunday, but nothing, I mean nothing will stop me from eating right. Yesterday my wife served Lasagna, and due to illness, I didn't have any appetite. Fresh fruits and veggies for me, and meats. I will take the advice from Altalaranger above and reduce the nuts. Any other suggestions for easy snacks between meals?

I will get my CW, GW and SW posted. Good motivation for sure. I can't wait to get into XL t-shirts. It's still XXL for me, but getting a little baggy.

I just saw an ad for Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Really? Man, where do I go to change ad choices, I don't want/can't have that type of ad on this site. I come here for motivation and strength and encouragement, not temptation.

I have a couple questions. I have been on a low carb diet, sort of a paleo diet with meat, not just wild meats from Africa, but rather meat, any type of meat, in any amount.....and still was able to lose weight. I have been able to keep my cholesterol within normal ranges. I do eat oat meal and cracked wheat in the morning. It acts as a scrub brush for the bad fat. Ideally, I would eat only the leanest meats, and wild animals and fish. That's not reality for me. I buy less expensive meats that I enjoy eating, although sometimes they have a higher fat amount. I have had friends go on vegetarian diets, only to have their cholesterol skyrocket, even with regular exercise.

I must admit that I use an ad blocker and I know other forum members that do the same...
I suggest that you use an ad blocker.
I use google chrome and got the ad blocker there.

I have adblock installed, so I don't see any banners or ads. That said, we talked about this before, and it seems that even the admin has no influence on what kind of ads are being shown on the page, unfortunately. :/

I also use an Ad blocker. They make life a lot easier...
I think it depends on your browser which one you can get, but I believe the most popular is Ad block plus.

As for the cholesterol issue, I can't answer. You friends may be adding to wrong things to their food. Also, you don't need to go into paleo to lose weight.

Is it strange I don't use ad blocker but don't get ads? Oh yes i do the "6 exercise mistakes" never noticed it before..
Hmmm :)

Personal best today for calories burned, and distance. 9 miles, almost 1200 burned. Sort of made up for being sick Monday and Tuesday. I am not seeing results as fast as I want. I am still super strict on the type of foods.

What do you guys eat between meals? I am learning how to eat correctly, to stay a normal weight, and not obsess about food. It's so hard, but I find myself eating less, more frequently, so that's great. My Garden is going crazy right now with tomatoes, corn, watermelon, raspberries, peaches, cantaloupe. I have been making shakes from fresh fruits and vegetables, and add some vanilla with almond milk. I add bananas to sweeten it up.

I will definitely get an ad blocker. Thanks for the advice guys.

4.5 today, with a nice 7.9 on Saturday, and 5.2 on Friday. Slowly attempting to make this a lifestyle daily routine. We had a big family gathering yesterday, and I avoided all the bad foods. Saturday I joined a large neighborhood softball game, and my mind thinks I am 16, and I dove for a ball, and messed up my elbow. Good think it won't effect my daily exercise. I hope you all continue to do well, and stay motivated, you can do this.

Hi everybody, just some random thoughts. So my wife has a big party at the house with all her friends, and the home was filled with all sorts of pastries, candy and fun! Wow, what a challenge. Anyway, I avoided all the food, if food is what it's called.

I feel parts of my body getting more tight, and smaller. Many of my workout clothes are getting looser. It's felt so good. 5 more lbs and I am in the 220s. It's amazing to me how hard it is to loose, and so easy it is to gain.

Two types of mental changes need to happen to me. 1) continue with my mentality until I reach my goal weight, then 2) maintaining it without getting crazy with losing more, or gaining it all back. As I work on this journey, I feel my thought processes changing. Any ideas are appreciated.
