'Fat Burner' Supplements while cutting..

I was reading an article on Bodybuilding.com that talked about preserving muscle mass while cutting. I read that in the final stages of a cutting cycle... fat burners are actually recommended. You see those products all the time, but if you're already losing fat/preserving muscle mass efficiently... you aren't quite sure what to do. Anyways, I'm looking to get an extra push from the cycle because my fat loss has obviously decreased since the start of my diet/workout strategy. Hydroxycut? Another product? Any ideas?

Thanks everybody!

Almost all of the "fat burners" are around 200mg of caffeine, neatly dressed up with some herbs. While caffeine does have a thermogenic effect, keep in mind it wreaks havoc on the endocrine system, and recent studies indicate it spikes cortisol production, while suppressing DHEA. A better choice would be 1500mg of l-carnitine first thing in the morning. I am presuming you are eating below your BMR and your macronutrient ratios are in the 30p/50c/20f area?

I'm looking into the L-Carnitrine. My macronutrient ratios consist of a higher protein to carbs/fats area. Actually, in looking at my caloric intake, I should probably reconsider the amount of fat in my diet versus protein. Although, with the reduced BMR (at a moderate cutback), it would be hard to get the protein I need with a 30/50/20 ratio. The protein I need being: 1-1.5g per pound of body weight in order to preserve muscle mass. My cutting stage is probably hanging me around 10-14% body fat. (i.e. [for lack of scientific names] the abdominal wall, top two abs [mostly defined], and middle two abs [someone defined]) I'd like to know more about this L-Carnitrine and if anyone has any other thoughts on 'fat-burners'. Specifically, does anyone have a preferred brand of L-Carnitrine?

You don't need 1-1.5 grams of protein to preserve muscle. This is a myth. Several studies have shown that muscle can be not only conserved, but built with .6-.8g pre pound of bodyweight. The other thing to remember is that you lose weight from total caloric deficit, NOT by rearranging your macros. There are 4 calories per gram of protein and 4 calories per gram of carbs, thus dropping your carbs to up your protein offers NO SIGNIFICANT ADVANTAGE, but adds stress to the kidneys, while depriving your brain, metabolism, immune system, and endocrine systems of the carbs they need to function. Regarding supplements, until you get your diet worked out, they are a waste of your cash. There is never any reason to consume more than 30% of your calories from protein, regardless of goals. Talk to any registered dietician or nutritionist, and they will likely tell you that 30% is even too high. Good luck!

I agree

I agree with IWalkAlone. You're not going to find something out there that will preserve 100% while cutting.
