Fat and Calories

I dont understand the difference b/w Calories and Calories from fat

Plus how much fat should a person eat. B/c Usually all brands go for lowfat, or no fat, or 98% fat free, nothing about the calories. Is it more important to cut down fat than Calories?

What you want to do is set up a healthy ratio of Carbs/Protein/Fat.

Depending on how many calories you need to consume a day you choose the amount of calories for each.

Lets say you start off with a 40% protein, 35% carbs, 25% fat ratio and you can take in 1800 calories. It would be..

720 calories from Protein
630 calories from Carbs
450 calories from Fat

Do that and make sure its good fats, good carbs and lean proteins.

Calories in the package is the total calories. Calories from fat is the amount of calories fat contributes.

Protein: 4cals/g.
Carbs: 4cals/g.
Fat: 9cals/g.
Alcohol: 7cals/g.

And to further muddy the water... not all fats are bad. It's the saturated fats you need to watch out for (which I believe are listed on the nutrition label also).

Saturated fats are not bad. They should constitue 1/3 of your fat intake.

It's the transfats that are bad, labeled as anything hydrogenated on the ingredient list. Those are the artery cloggers.
