Failing horribly...

This is an odd post, to be sure. I've got weight to lose, and a lifestyle to change. I'm diabetic, and after a life of hedonism and food-love, I'm having a hard time putting it behind me. An almost pathologically hard time.

But I've researched it. I know what I need to do.
I'm smart. I know some other things I *could* do.

What I really am doing is just fishing for words of encouragement. I'm having a hard time telling myself that I can do this...so I'm reaching out and asking for what I can't give myself.

Like I said, and odd post, but I'm an odd guy.

Hey, fair enough. I guess I'm kind of in the same boat as you. For years, I have known exactly what I need to do, and exactly what I have been doing wrong. And of course, I've been ignoring it completely!

When my doctor told me my cholesterol was borderline high (not good for a 23 year old!), I decided enough was enough, and that I was going to do something to change. But after a month, not a lot had happened. That's when I found this website.

I think by joining up here, you're in for as much support as you can take! Everyone is full of advice and encouragement. If you start up a diary, you'll probably find that you're feeling guilty if you haven't updated in a few days. If you join a challenge, you'll feel that you need to try and do well so that you don't disappoint the people in the challenge with you. I know it sounds odd to feel like you're disappointing people who are essentially a bunch of strangers more or less, but it's amazing what that little bit of guilt can do!

Anyway, like you said, you're smart and you know what you need to do. We're all here to cheer you on, so go do it! :rotflmao:

Well my friend, if im doing this anything is possible, i had zero discipline, none and im doing pretty good, its all about perseverance, not quitting, if you have a bad meal, forget about it and make it up on the next one, this is a lifestyle change, you got to be clear on your goals, and aim there, i guarantee you that if you dont quit youll get there. im like 10 lbs away from my goal and ive been eating everything, but i NEVER EVER quit, youre going to have your bad meals, bad days and even bad weeks but if you persevere youll get there eventually, its not about not falling its about getting up and keep on walking.... God Bless!

Hey Jishosan,

Here's some tips that got me started and believe me, I'm not a super disciplined person either.
Start with something simple like eating a healthy breakfast or a healthy lunch, and leave the other meals as they are. Then once you start to realise that healthy CAN mean tasty, make another meal healthy. Stick to that for a while and then make all meals healthy.
Then after you've done that, you can start looking at smaller meals but more of them. Once you feel comfortable with your new eating regime, slowly bring in some exercise. It doesn't have to be hours and hours. Start with say five minutes a day (some situps and or pushups for example) and slowly increase your output to a level you can sustain.
While you're doing this, you'll notice a few pounds come off here and there and bingo, there's more motivation.
Also set yourself some REALISTIC goals. For example, this month I want to lose four pounds. If you reach it celebrate (not with food) if you don't... look at why you didn't.
This is working for me and hopefully it can help you too.
