Failed last year - time to start a new year with a new plan!!!

Hey all!!

At exactly this time last year I embarked on a mission to get myself in shape, and yet here I sit weighing only marginally less than I did back then. I know exactly where I went wrong too, I had my diet pretty much perfected, lifted weights and ran at least 5 miles a day BUT as hard as I worked on my appearance I must have partied twice as hard. I went out drinking 3-4 nights a week and got virtually no quality sleep, which as we all know are the biggest enemy for those wanting to lose weight. I also confused my goals, to lose fat and to gain muscle mass, both of which are completely at odds with each other, as for muscle gain you require an excess of calories, and fat loss requires a caloric defecit, and thus didn't accomplish much aside from frustrating and demotivating myself.

Anyway 2010 is over, and was a vastly helpful learning experience, it showed me exactly what I should and shouldn't be doing when working towards my goals, and as such I've gained a huge motivation to do things properly this year!

I'm not getting any younger, I hit 30 last october so it kinda feels like a now or never situation. My reason for signing up for this forum is to keep me motivated and compare my progress with that of my peers, I find it helpful to keep in touch with people that have the same interests and targets as I have.

My current weight is 196lbs, which for a guy whose height is 5'6", is probably about 20-30lbs too much, although I am fairly thick set so hopefully my estimate of what I need to lose is slightly exagerrated.

Anyway that's me, hopefully i'll fit right in on the forum, and looking forward to finally achieving what I set out to do a year ago!

LOL cool username. I'm turning 29 next month so I know how you felt. 2010 was a great learning experience for me as well and I also plan to tackle 2011 head on. Welcome, good luck and see ya round :)

Haha, cheers mate, a great girl I worked with a few years ago used to call me that and it stuck, even amongst my circle of friends!

Thanks for the good luck and welcome, i'm certainly going to need it as all sense of discipline seemed to desert me when I quit thai boxing in my mid 20's. To be honest one of my goals is to get back into martial arts, but I feel I need to improve my general fitness before starting. I'm aiming for March. There's a great MMA academy 20 mins from where I live that i've heard positive things about, so in March gonna head down there and sign up, if i've accomplished what I set out to do!

Anyway cheers, hope everything goes well for you in 2011!!!
