Extreme weight loss...

Hey folks!

I'm an 18 year old guy thats been on a pretty strict diet since Monday (72 hours so far) but I'm a bit shocked, and even concerned with how rapidly I've been losing weight and am looking for some reassurance as to weather or not this is healthy.

I've always been a pretty big guy. I'm 6'5, and was at 287 on Monday after I woke up and used the restroom. I've been eating healthy, usually 5-6 smaller meals a day, and doing some light working out. When I weighed myself this morning after waking up and using the restroom, I was at 269. Yesterday I was at 274. The weight loss has been pretty gradual over the three days.

I haven't been starving myself or anything, and I actually feel terrific (I even feel like my face looks a bit thinner), but from what I've read, 18 pounds in three days is kind of ridiculous. This is what I ate yesterday:

9:00 AM: Non-fat Yogurt and granola.

11:00 AM: Fresh Strawberries

1:30 PM: Another non-fat yogurt (so delicious!), some low fat pretzel/peanut butter.

4:30 PM: Some Fresh blackberries

7:30 PM: Fresh Salmon and Green beans.

I've also been drinking a lot of water (as I always do), and some diet peach iced tea (0 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbs etc).

I'm not sure weather I should be jumping for joy, or be concerned.

-Thanks!

Yeah, you don't give any calorie amounts of quantities so its hard to know what your eating, maybe work out the calories, go to a site like fitday and work out what you need. If you lose too much weight in one go, you may get a reaction from your body that tries hard to stop any further weight loss, things like feeling slowed down and lathargic, feeling very very hungry, cold symptoms or mild depression...anything to get you to retain more calories and if possible gain more from food. Be careful, weight loss of that amount is alot and its rarely going to be all from fat, its likely your losing water and muscle, if your not taking on any or enough sodium, the water you drink will just go straight through you, your body likes to keep a sodium:water ratio fairly stable, you get thirsty if you have too much sodium and pee alot if you have not enough sodium.

Make sure you eat, rest and exercise well, try not to cut back too much on your food or you may end up with your body getting used to what your eating and the day you step out of that cut-bac margin (easy to do if your not eating alot- it just takes a birthday/evening out/party drinks) and your weight may very quickly change to rise upwards.
