Exercising but limited

Recently I thought about going on an exercise routine to get back in shape. I use to do all kinds of machines before I gained weight from a knee accident.

The only thing I can do now is the elliptical machine. I want to start out at 30 mins a day but I need more. I have 40lbs to lose. I can go for two hours on the elliptical. My question is since my exercise is very limited due a knee accident will this help me lose some weight?

I mean after I lose a bit of weight I would like to do the stairmaster and treadmill for 2 hours.

I think it's a great start.

You'll probably see more results by restructuring your diet. Focus on consuming quality foods regularly throughout the day. Eliminate the junk and you'll be fine.

Slow aerobic exercise is not the most effective way to lose weight (especially 40lbs). If you can go for 2hrs that means your intensity is low - your heart rate doesn't increase much. This does a bit for fat loss but very little for caloric expulsion.

Does your knee hurt if you increase your intensity (pace) on the elliptical? You should try intervals if you can. Instead of a consistent steady pace, aim for something like 1 minute fast pace, 30 seconds slow pace. This will get your heart rate up and your metabolism revving for hours past your workout. And you won't need to be on the elliptical for 2 hrs (way too much).

I would also recommend a weight lifting session 2-3 times per week. Building some muscle will help you burn more calories even when you're not working out.

Good luck on your journey! Let me know if you need any help.
