Exercise/Weight Training Question

I am the new guy, lol. I did my introduction and I've been all over this site for the last, possibly hour reading.

Over the years I've read tons of different information about exercising and/or weight training. As I said in my introduction I'm a pretty muscular guy, maybe average or so, but it's mostly covered up by fat. My goal right now is to lose weight and cut fat, but I wouldn't mind building up/toning muscle as well. Especially in my chest (I'm not afraid to say it, pointy man boobs, totally bad.)

What I've read over the years tends to be contradicting or hypocritical. Some people say you can weight train and exercise to lose weight at the same time. Others say you need to exercise and lose weight first, before weight training.

I'm just wondering if it's best to do one then the other (i.e. lose the weight, then build the muscle) or if it's not so bad to do both at the same time.

Any thoughts?
