I've been putting off this post........ because... it could get ugly.
When broken down to a scientific formula, food vs. food out..... is true....... but most of the time just knowing that isn't enough, you're completely eliminating the human factor, since people are not machines.
To me.. this is sort of like saying... "just put gas in your car, and it will be fine" not so.....
I believe that taking an ACTIVE part in your weight loss gives you more control over your weight loss plan, you're taking control of your entire physical health, not just your cholesterol levels, etc. IT also not only allows you eat more, exercise also helps regulate your hunger, whether you're overweight or underweight. It gives you the mental edge, everyone loves to have more control over their lives.
Whereas only having the PASSIVE component of weight loss, eating less, makes a lot of people hungry, fidgety for their next meal or snack.
In my personal experience,... when I exercise 1/2 hour a day I cannot help but to lose weight, I might have a HORRIBLE eating binge during that time, but I'm able to quickly return to good eating the next day.
I'm not going to bore you with all of the benefits you derive from exercise, they're out there, but one important one that I feel needs to be mentioned is that you really have an increased energy level during the time you workout. I've heard some students here say they don't have to workout, but when I was in school (a good while ago), I couldn't afford to NOT work out, I needed less sleep, and was more alert during the day, and this is without any caffeine at all.
......
Also.... I feel much more confident during periods of working out.
