Exercise Bike Recommendation, Schwinn 113?

This is my first post on this forum. :)

I'm in the market for a $400 -$500 exercise bike. My goal is to loose weight and increase my cardio.

I live in an apartment so I need something compact, quiet, and reliable. I've narrowed my choices down to an upright excercise bike with magnetic resistance.

I think I am going to go with either the Schwinn 112, 113, or the Nordic Track U300.

I went to a local store and tried the Schwinn 113 and Nordic Track U300. I found the seat on the Nordic Track U300 to be a little more comfortable than the Schwinn. The person at the store also told me that the Schwinn 113 is due to be replaced.

I did a search already, but can any owners of either models offer an opinion?

Thanks!

They have two models. One uses a belt and is almost silent. The other is a chain drive and makes a little more noise, but it is not bad. There is no maintenance on these bikes. I have had one for over fifteen years and it works as good today as the day I bought it. You can find them on ebay both new and used. Normally the used ones are only a couple of hundred less than the new ones, so you might as well get new.

FYI on Schwinn Models

I contacted Schwinn and I found out that the Schwinn 112 & 113 is being discontinued in favor of their newer models the Schwinn 122 & 123.

It seems that the main differnece between the two models is a different resistance mechanism.

The 112 & 113 are listed as using "magnetic resistance" and the 122 & 123 are listed as using "Eddy Current Brake" which is a type of magnetic resistance.
