exercise bike or bicycle

Hey what do you guys think

im not sure which one i shoudl get

My main goal or use of the intended equipment is to develop fitness, and work my quads. which of the two are better for that do you think?

I'd recommend buying a used road bike, contacting a local bike shop, ask them about local weekend rides and do that. Cycling is big down under.

Stationary bikes are to be used only when it is hazardous or logistically unfeasible to ride outdoors imho.

Yeah thanks, id prefer that because its a lot cheaper.

I was thinking something more in the terms of a moutain bike. Its quite hilly where i live and some bike tracks up the road i think. So a bike ride for 20-30 minutes on just on qietish roads seems allright.

Thanks

Getting a road bicycle lets you ride outside and go interesting places. You can also ride indoors by getting a training stand and putting the road bicycle on it.

A stationary bicycle only lets you ride indoors. It is also less convenient to move around.

Dya have example links so that peeps can see the prices/features for example? Might get one meself.

well the bike is about 220 and exercise bike 350

The exercise bike seems like the highest resistance isnt hard enough
I think ill get the bike, mainly because its cheaper and the resistance can be higher..

Im a big fan of hybrid bikes. I have a specialized hard rock comp frame and I fit road wheels and off road wheels to it. If you planning on using it to do a bit of everything a completely recomend going for something like I have.

It wasnt the cheapest but you should have a look at this website the prices you can get on there are ridiculous and you can get a frame very similar to a hard rock for cheap. I put together a bike for my bro on the website and it worked out real cheap compared to buying it new.

The shipping is real fast as well

If you decide you wanna go with a bike, now you're gonna face some serious decisions:

road bike: you want to travel aerodynamically and fast on the road exclusively but lacking in creature comfort

mountain bike: off road but with the ability to ride on the road with different tires. Goes way slower but more upright and comfortable

hybrid: the ability to go on the road or offroad, but neither very well. Sit up straight and comfortably.

I would say NBS' bike is more of a mountain bike with road tires than a hybrid bike as they typically do not have as much fork travel and have cushier seats.

your correct my friend. I was in the position where I didnt know what to buy and Im so glad i went for what I did. The good thing about mine is with either set of tyres on it I can get to work faster than I can by car. 10 minutes faster! I jump curbs etc.

I was considering if I could be a bike courier!

The touring variety is designed more for comfort and load carrying (e.g. bigger tires, mounts for racks and fenders) than the racing variety. However, the touring variety is less common. Many lower end road bicycles are somewhat in-between.

looks like some bike enthusiasts :p

Id only mainly be riding on the road, probably head out sunset for a good ride and workout. the hill my house is located is as steep as it can get !

I had a look at a bike before and think it was a malvern star, looked pretty stylish and seemed as though suitable.

Look for a road bicycle with three chainwheels on the front.

If you go for a hybrid bicycle, most of them have three chainwheels on the front.

i prefer riding indoors in a safe environment..

i live in sydney australia... and yes.. its a pretty safe country..

but still.. last thing i want is some 15yo kid throwing a bottle at me like what they are doing to buses...

I've ridden 20,000 miles over the years and never had anything thrown at me. But, here in the US, everyone packs a handgun and maybe the 15yo punks are afraid I'll pull a nine out of my back and waste his sorry azz! I dunno..

I wouldn't necessarily discount stationary bikes. Have you ever attended a spin class? It's pretty amazing the workout you can get from a good instructor who knows how to work different muscle groups. That being said, I prefer riding outside for sure, although winter in Montana makes it difficult to ride outside :)

Also remember that cycling for the sake of riding may not get you anywhere. Ask around for different cycling workouts, or try something like . You can ride all you want for hours on end, but without any real goal you may not accomplish what you want.

If you're stuck wondering what to do during the winter , try some . Very good exercise.
