Newbie here. 7 weeks ago today I got out of my chair to go to bed and couldn't walk. Shooting pain down my left leg left me hobbling. I couldn't stand or even sit up. I couldn't lift my legs 2 inches off the bed with out cringing in pain. I couldn't make it to the doctor by way of the car. My wife had to call an ambulance to take me to the ER.
Two days later I'm being prepped for surgery to a severely ruptured lumbar disc. So many thoughts were going through my head. "When will I be able to work again? How will I support my family? Will I lose my home? My job?" I was pretty depressed about it.
When I woke up from anesthesia, the first thing I did was try to lift my legs. And i did it! It was such a relief. Through a 15 minute non-invasive surgery I'm walking again. From that moment I made a promise to myself to lose weight to relieve the stress on my back.
I'm male 5'6" and my starting weight was 228 lbs. To date I've lost 22 lbs and 2 inches off my waste. I'm fairly pleased with my progress considering I'm doing it without the help of a trainer. I started walking everyday at first but now I'm up to a slow jog of about 2 miles a day. I've also changed my diet and I'm watching my portions.
I've wondered if there are others out there who have gone through back surgery and decided to lose weight. I'd like to here your experiences.
