Hi there,

So I lost about 40lbs 2 years ago, and ever since (despite now being a healthy weight), I have stretchy, excess, fatty skin particularly on my thighs. This really bothers me - what can I do ? I'd like to add that in contrast, my upper body is very skinny, and I don't want that to become even more skinny through weight loss !

As you can see below, I can literally grab clumps of fatty skin in my hands.

Hey Jacob, congrats on losing 40 lbs and keeping it off. That is a great accomplishment.

I am no expert on loose skin, but since no one else has answered yet thought I'd give you my 2 cents. I have a lot more loose skin than you do and I would prefer it to be tight and smooth, but I am a lot happier and healthier with the loose skin than back when it was full of fat and a tighter. I try to see it as a positive thing, a sign of accomplishment.

From your pictures it seems you are a lot younger than me, and to me your skin doesn't look abnormally loose, but again I am no expert. As to the possibility of tightening it up with more weight loss or exercise I just don't know. Have you asked your doctor? Maybe others who know more about it than I will chime in.

I'm another non-expert chiming in here! Like Rob, I don't think your skin looks abnormally loose - it looks quite normal to me - not even fat, just healthy untoned flesh. What I call loose skin is where you can actually lift it up, the way I can (and I think many people can) on the back of the hand. You might be a little soft-fleshed, which I expect could change with targeted exercises, but that's not the same as having loose skin.

whether or not you buy into BMI, it is a good reference point, so could you list ... height, weight ... and age? i know age isn't a part of the BMI calc, but it is for other concerns. i don't like to assume anything, but by the implication vis-à-vis "Jacob", you're male?
