ex-biggest looser fan, sounding off

I really like the show. I've applied twice but no call back..Oh well. I have to agree with ABBA girl that the promotion spots are SUPER annoying! And lately it seem to be all about game play, not even the weight loss sometimes. I love Jillian. If I could pick a trainer it would be her. Her teams win all the time.

I watch it occasionally and I enjoy its entertaining value.everyone loves a good script full of drama! lol
I agree that the determination helps me want to get up my chubby butt and do some work out, considering I am not that overweight. but I also agree the exercise routines are unrealistic, they do intense work out day in and day night which just can't be healthy. it is the equivalent to a crash diet in a fat camp with no candy and excess work out. they are gaining the weight back because they simply went back to their regular lifestyles, maybe they are still doing exercise and eating healthier but not at the extreme rhythm they did at the show.

Hey Cord
I totally remember Taking It All Off - what a great show! I also like Last 10 Pounds bootcamp and X-Weighted, which are also Cdn shows. :biggrinjester:

Best wishes on your own journey

Well, I guess we can all agree that we'll all never agree on BL in totality. There is always at least one component to be picked apart depending on one's perspective.

All I can say is watching the finale, it never makes me less than beaming seeing their results. Dreams are unfolding into fast-forwarded reality in front of a nation's eyes.

If nothing else, this can only be a turn-off to those who never got started or gave up along the way. If you found a way to forego your own weight loss without BL being part of your inspiration, that's great. That's a solid sign you were ready to loss weight and make a commitment no matter what.

I still give BL its proper for being the most visible awareness of hope our saggy country has to date. I'm happy for every contestant on that stage - and I also know how good it feels, too :) (minus the TV part)

I was sickened when I watched the biggest loser finale tonight, because the winner looked like she went to an extreme to lose the weight and win. But as some people are arguing on the biggest loser comment board: She played the game, therefore she won.

I just don't agree with it at all. She looked too skinny (almost anorexic looking) and unhealthy and ended up looking much older than she was. She looked old and haggard, instead of youthful and glowing as she was when she left the ranch. The other runner ups looked healthy for their body size and looked fantastic and I believed that they deserved the prize money more than the winner tonight.

If they continue letting these contestants go to such unhealthy measures in order to win the game, I think I am going to stop watching it then.

I just don't agree with it at all.

I only watched one episode the entire run, and that was because I'm a NASCAR fan. Just so happened it was my favorite driver on the show.

I felt compelled to go to the web site and see how everybody looked now. Tara looks GREAT! I'm surprised she didn't win.

I agree with you. I thought that maybe Tara or Mike should have won. They looked healthy, but Tara is 150 or something like that and lost because she needed to lose so many more pounds. That's ridiculous. She's 5'9" I think she would look anorexic if she lost more than what she did. I know I could never imagine myself like that. I'm the same height as Tara and I don't think I'd ever want to go lower than 165. But than again, that's me.

However, I do enjoy the show. I think it's amazing to see their bodies transform. However, it does make people want to see result quicker, which could lead to most people starting and quiting so soon on their personal weight loss programs. As for myself, I watch it for entertainment. There might be a few things I take out of it, like when they have the cooks come and show them how to make healthier meals, or maybe a couple of the training tips, but that's about all.

However, I think that most of the contestants are playing the game a bit too much... losing the big picture... it's about health, but the minute money is involved people get money hungry. I wonder if this show would have been as successful if they didn't have the money prize in the end. If it was strictly about losing the weight and your prize being the healthier you.

I have to agree with Tara to a point. I'm the same height, when I was aggressively losing weight I got down to 157 and looked pretty good, now I'm working on getting down to 155. 150 would probably be too much for me. I thought she looked great in the pics that I saw.

lol, oh my.

Me being 49 and my daughter being 22, well, when we stand side by side, I can tell you there is no way I'll be as 'tight' or 'shiny' or even as 'healthy' (to look at) as her. That's comparable to Helen (48) standing beside Mike (18) and Tara (23).

Helen was on the Today Show this morning and she looked fab tab for her age. There is no transcendent guarantee your looks are reversed for an over-the-top job well done. At some point, only a surgeon can fix 'haggard.' Helen admitted she busted her ass to extraordinary levels on the stretch run. Hard weight loss can have a hard look. Jerry was a perfect example of that. Talk about the 'chemo look', omg.

I'd like to see one shred of a link were the contestants are 'unhealthier' for their efforts. All I heard was diseases and inflictions reversed with improved qualities of life obtained in the process.

I'm not sure where this 'looks healthier should win' stuff was thought up. That's such a reach..

I seen Helen on the Today show also. I thought she looked amazing!

Now it gots me wondering if maybe it was just the spotlights on her during the Finale that made her look different to me.

you are right... the doctor did say that all or most of diseases they had or would get were eliminated. I suppose I haven't seen any contestant who looked Unhealthy after losing the weight. I suppose what I meant by Tara and Mike looked 'Healthier' than Helen was that I would have prefered if Helen wasn't so skinny... However, all of the contestants did look amazing.

I thought Tara pull the short straw on her finale dress... I thought it was not flattering to her at all, actually I think my exact words were, wow her dress is hideous. LoL...

I watched BL when it first started a number of years ago. I liked it at first but it seems to get more and more unrealistic each season. I'm a personal trainer and nutrition consultant and I understand what realistic (and healthy) weight loss should be and the BL is definitely not it. The show may entertaining but it is a horrible 'weight loss tool'. I don't know of anyone that could possibly survive off 1000 calories a day and dedicate 6-8 hours to working out daily.

This was actually my favorite season of BL so far. :biggrinjester: For the most part the players treated each other respectfully and seemed to actually care about one another, as opposed to the skanky bags from last season! Motherofpearl they were nasty!

I thought Helen looked simply wonderful, and was totally shocked that she won! I really think Tara should have won, as she kicked arse during all of the contests/competitions! What a fighter! I cried when I saw Mike and his Dad (yes, I am a big mushy baby) - they are SO much healthier now. Absolutely tremendous.

However, Jerry looked positively frightening!:svengo: I believe T2 said that he had the "chemo look" - and he sure did! Very sunken and sallow. He looked sickly, to me. Mind you, how awesome that he kicked all of his health troubles! Hope now he has the energy to enjoy his grandkids.

Can't wait for next season!:hurray:
Cheers

I've been so busy I haven't had time to visit here much or post. For that matter, I just watched my recording of the finale. I was happy to see the old folks so well represented at the finale.

When you get older, skin isn't elastic and you look saggy and haggard with weight loss...but I still look better today than I did 50 pounds ago.

For the record, I am taller than Tara and weigh somewhere between 153 and 157, depending on the day....so 150 for a young woman that is shorter than me by 3 inches is not a ridiculous weight. I would be happy to weigh less than I do...I just don't see where I could sustain the weight as I like food too darn much.

too me its always seemed completly unrealistic, the amounts of weight these people were losing were amazing! BUT i never liked the way they solely focused on weight loss not BF% dropped, huge differance, it dosent really set a good example!

Views for biggest Loser coach

I was always critical of the show myself and last spring I volunteered to be a biggest loser coach for a local biggest loser contest that was pattered after the show.

Even without 8 hour workouts and the "ranch" feel of this local contest there was so much that was false and the contestants were taught about winning a game rather than being healthy. I found many contestants going against my recommendations so they could play the game rather than achieve lifetime fitness. I felt like such a hypocrite.

The show is entertainment and I guess it can be motivating but it's about as realistic as a German shepard playing the piano.

(REMOVED)

Its really sad to hear the contestants are regaining weight after being given such an opportunity. The show may not be what its like to lose weight at home in real life but these people are given the chance to stop there lives and focus on losing the weight with some of the best trainers and they throw it away. I feel the show isn't about changing there mind set but more about setting them up to change. I personally feel its an opportunity and would take advantage of every moment but that the difference between someone who wants it and goes for it and someone who talks about going for it. I do agree this season has seemed less than previous seasons. One person this season that really rubs me the wrong way is Traci...Can you say WEIRD!

I honestly really love the show. Yea its not a realistic view of weight loss but I think the point is to show that if they can take 400+ lb people and make them eat healthy and work out for 6 hours a day without them dying..its not impossible for people to start small and make the changes they need to make in their lives to get healthy.

Alot of people that are 100-200-300 pounds overweight sometimes just give and figure they will always be fat because they are embarrassed or think its too hard to start losing weight because they let themselves go. They are gonna be watching that biggest loser show and I feel like it would be motivation to them to get out and get the help they need.

I dont know its super entertaining at the very least..and I like to work out while its on haha
