Evening workouts?

The only time I have to work out is in the evenings after I get home from work. Sometimes I work out before I eat dinner, other times it's after I eat dinner. Which is better though?

Should I skip the workouts until after I have dinner? Or workout beforehand?

yeah i have the same problem but what i have been doing is either eating dinner or having a snack before the workout and when I get home doing the opposite. I need to have something so i have enough energy for the workout so i eat before and after when im hungry and feeding my body for the recovery.

Work out when you can, how you can, where you can. Nutritional timing you can worry about later. I know a lot of guys who intermittent fast. They work out after not eatinf for several hours and wont eat for several after. Just get busy!

I almost exclusively work out at night, after work. I personally have found that eating either a banana , a handful of dried fruit, or a yogurt 15-30 mins before I exercise gives me enough oomph to get going but doesn't fill me up to the point I feel groggy or really full. Right after working out I'm not really hungry, but I'll usually eat dinner about an hour later.

If I'm having a busy day and don't get a chance to work out between my job and dinner, I wait at least 60-90 minutes before I work out, especially if your doing cardio. Otherwise I feel uncomfortable and unmotivated.

I work out after work, before dinner. It works for me.
I tried working out after dinner. I didn't feel well.

I can/have worked out earlier (ie late afternoon) 2-3 hrs after lunch, on my days off, that's ok too.

I definitly am going to make sure I workout before dinner. Last night, I ate dinner then worked out. Meh, I felt okay after but felt really tired and didn't fold my laundry or do the dishes.

Tonight, I had a banana when I got home from work did dishes then worked out. Didn't feel all tired and ate dinner about an hour later. Still feeling like I've got energy.

yay bananas! They're my magic food, I use them all the time to help me get through my day, they make me feel full and energetic almost instantly... way more effective and healthier than any protein bar. I'm glad it helped.

I have to work out after work now because of my class schedule (to get up early enough to get a work out in before work would mean I need to be up around 20 hours by the time I get home from class.)

I always eat something to give me a little energy when I get home, usually a banana, then take 15 minutes checking e-mails or whatever then I do my exercise.

I always eat dinner after my work-out. I dont seem to have any problems with this, its just hard some mornings thats why i take 15 minutes cause it gets me out of the mindset of "im so tired I just wanna go home and lie in bed, I really dont wanna work out."

I guess its just tricking my mind, but it works.

up to you and how your body feels

Good advice.

The only thing I am picky about is when I did a lot of cardio I liked to do it first thing in the morning, before I ate. I did hear once that is a good idea(prolly a myth), but for me it was more of a personal choice.

From what I've read the loss is minimal and since you're working out without the extra energy from having eaten your exercise is shorter.
