so my name is michael.
i'm 17 and i'm fat.
devastatingly, i've been bouncing around 300lbs for about half a year.
i'm sick of it, but i've already dealt with all the self loathing crap.
so last saturday i started a diet. and amazingly i've stuck with it.
it's actually the very first diet i've stayed on for more than two days.
and this has me extremely motivated. i'm trying to keep it under 1200 calories a day right now. it's not extremely hard, because i just cut out the boredom eating.
one terrible thing is that i have a phobia of fruits and vegetables. i'll eat a banana, some cheeries, maybe grapes. but i REALLY have to force myself to choke those down.
oh! and i got a gym membership, and i would have gone more last week, but i could only knock off one day with a friend. so today was my third visit. first with my own membership, and i really love it.
i'm feeling healthier already, but i feel i could use some support to keep me on track. some people who know more than me, and might help.

Hey Mikey,

Please don't take this the wrong way because I think it's great that you are changing your habits! But, eating 1200 calories at your age for a male is just bad form. You should really probably use some online calculators to figure out your RMR and then go from there (Words of Wisdom is a great thread to read before you make any real decisions). But what happens when the weightloss stops because your body adapts? You have no where to drop... below 1500 for males is fairly severe and imho not healthy at all.

Remember, you want to do this but safely and effectively... believe it or not, below 1500 is NOT effective because your body isn't getting enough nutrients to run efficiently. Just read a few sticky threads before getting set on 1200 cals!

Best of luck,

Keith

Hello Michael,

Glad your on here, I'm new as well. I am very glad you stuck with your diet right on!
I' am sure we'll learn a lot on here. I've learned a lot already from friends, here and the net.

Just remember to take it day by day, when you get the chance take a walk outside or (like I) buy a Gymnastic ball those are wonderful, I usually do a couple sit-ups after I eat, drink plenty of water.

For me a gym membership doesn't do much good, I recommend getting out there and running a few times a week. I've never liked running years back but, wow
when you get out there you feel so much better, your stress level decreases, you lose weight really fast and over all you feel great!

Hope that helps you take care
