So the Battle continues. A vicious war has broken out between schedule and diet. Being a truck driver my sleeping schedule is erratic and planning my diet around an erratic sleeping schedule is becoming rather complicated.

For instance, this morning I woke and had my regular breakfast, diet continued as usual but now I've got to drive all night when I'd normally be sleeping.
So, do I not eat?
Do I eat breakfast as usual when I'm hungry even though I've been up all night?
Do I have lunch then sleep on that?

That's a tough one. Irregular shifts can really mess people up but if you know your schedule in advance and know how your body tends to react you may be able to work something out.
- Do you usually get hungry while driving at night or is it rare enough that your body isn't used to eating at that time?
- Do you need to eat at night in order to maintain your concentration while driving?
- Can you follow your sleepless night up with a solid 8 hours of sleep, meaning you'd miss lunch anyway?
Depending on what you know about your own circumstances you could move one meal completely or spread multiple smaller portion out over the 24-hour period as needed. Lack of sleep makes everything harder so you have my sympathy.

The good news is you are fighting the battle, if you keep doing that I am sure you will figure something out. I've not worked a night shift since college so am not sure how much help I can be, but one thing I have found is if I am feeling hungry the best thing to do is eat something. I usually eat a piece of fruit, not a lot of calories, good for you, refreshing, and filling.

I am looking forward to reading more about your success.

So, we got through that. Schedule is regularized again. For now, and I know how to win the fight next time. Larabar's are such a lifesaver. Low cal snack that almost a meal.

Down another 4lbs. If I keep it up I'll make my goal of 300 by the end of the year. Didn't think it would be possible, but it's looking good.

Well done getting though the night shift.

And even if you don´t quite make it (weightloss tends to slow over time) you´ll be a lot closer than if you gave up :)

You are getting better prepared to cope with obstacles as you go. You're doing very well, Eric :)

Official weigh in is 368.0 down from 392.2. one lb at a time and I really thank you all for you encouragement and advice. The diet has become routine now. When I break loose I do so healthily, or as much as possible.

Those little rewards are major game changers. The only problem I seem to be having now is my schedule getting stretched out and I end up eating right before I lay down. I know that's a no no. So I try to go to bed just a little hungry, but...hunger is a strange thing. It doesn't let you sleep lol.

So I have a little bite and lay down, but then breakfast comes later cause I'm not hungry in the morning. Which makes lunch later and dinner later, the cycle is rather vicious...

Maybe I need to ear breakfast early no matter if I'm hungry or not?

Idk. I'd love your thoughts on it. You've all been so fantastic. Thank you so much!

I agree with Cate. Great job listening to what your body needs though, even if you have to nudge it a bit sometimes to keep in on track.

Not much to report. Things are going great. Down to 364lbs. Moving has become so much easier and I don't get out of breath anymore.

The diet has set in and it's full on routine for me now, the other day I tried to go "hog wild" and only made it up to 2,200 calories lol. I was so full, I thought I'd die.

Thinking back to how much I used to eat and how bad it was keeps me moving forward. I don't ever want to go back.

I know if I can do this anyone can, you just have to have determination.

Hey Eric, it seems like things are going great! I'm glad to see that you're sorting things out as you encounter hurdles. There is really no right way to go about things and you're not always going to know what to do ahead of time, but you can keep trying things until it works.

28 lbs down is awesome! I'm not surprised that you are noticing things are getting easier. As you continue to exercise and drop a bit of weight, you'll probably continue to notice this.

Great work, looking forward to seeing your continued progress!

This is such great reading, Eric! You are doing brilliantly - I admire your determination, and your canniness to figure out ways around each obstacle.

Hey Eric, why not update the diary. I would likely get more readers and responses.

Don't let the variety of opinions you have gotten worry you, we all have different points of view and find different paths. This forum is a good way to figure out what is best for you. I can tell you that I started at 320 lbs, not much below where you are now, and for the past 7 months have been on a diet of about 1,200 calories a day. I have lost about 80 lbs and feel pretty good. I have a doctors appointment next week to talk about the diet and what he thinks. I know others here believe I am eating too few calories, and they may be right, will see what he says.

Best of luck to you.
