Energy Pathways

I pulled this off from .

1 to 4 seconds Anaerobic ATP (in muscles)
4 to 20 seconds Anaerobic ATP + PC
20 to 45 seconds Anaerobic ATP + PC + Muscle glycogen
45 to 120 seconds Anaerobic, Lactic Muscle glycogen
120 to 240 seconds Aerobic + Anaerobic Muscle glycogen + lactic acid
240 to 600 seconds Aerobic Muscle glycogen + fatty acids

Does this imply that the time to complete a set for bulking should be 45-120 secs? Is it the time that is the critical factor or the number of reps?

No, that has nothing to do with bulking or cutting. That's just telling you what energy system you're using during exercise.

actually the energy system helps determine if you are trying to gain muscle or just get stronger or more endurance

diet also determines bulking or cutting

if you want to get really technical ATP would be 0-4 seconds, but I wouldnt look too closley at the numbers if i were you.

Its not like you can really choose what energy system your going to use, you progressivly use all of them as you exercise.
but thats just a typical number, like any stat its diffrent for everyone, those numbers are just a ruff idea to help us learn whats really happening to the body when we exercise.
you shouldnt time your sets, or count as this can be distracting, just control the weight thru the exentric phase, and give it everything you have in the concentric phase.

Allright, my bad, what I meant is training for hypertrophy and not bulking. So then I guess the sets should exceed a certain time to gain muscle.

I pick my weights according to this http://www.fitness.com/forum/showpost.php?p=52141&postcount=3 but I do my sets real fast and I finish in under 40 secs. So, this seems to be a problem right?
