Hi everyone, I am brand shiny new :). I've lurked around here for a few weeks, on and off, but not actually got around to registering and saying anything. Well, my name is Jo, I am in my early 30s, unmarried and childless but in a long distance relationship. I want to lose an amount of weight which I am wary of specifying, even though everyone here is in the same boat! I never manage to stay on diets for longer than about fifteen minutes though :(

welcome to the site...

as you read around the site, you'll find most people here don't diet - we've discovered that diets do not work - what does work is a lifestyle change... and that will give you long term success...

have fun while you're here :D

Thanks :) I shall certainly try to. Life style change sounds good. I need less junk food, less beer, less salt and sugar and more exercise!

Sounds so easy when you say it like that :(

All good things to have less of - and if beer is what you love, theres no reason to cut it out of your plan, just practice moderation :D which your wallet will appreciate too :D

Well no harm in cutting it out - it's just empty calories :D. I was wondering whether to start a regulated plan or just, I dunno, make small changes and not worry too much about whether the weight is coming off or not...

BTW (as you seem to be some sort of authority here, judging from your postcount:D) am I allowed to advertise a small forum in my sig? It's not weight related but I don't want to put it in if it's not acceptable here :)

there's no advertising allowed in signatures on this forum, at least until you reach a certain post count or have been given permission... thanks for asking though...

Okey doke no worries :)

I think I will start a weight loss journal of sorts ... or at least, maybe a progress journal would be the better thing to call it. I actually bought a pedometer and a home step machine last week so they should help :D. I could set myself specific exercise goals for each day, even if I don't set myself food goals.

Hey ILoveMoose,

questions .. Do you have moose over there? lol
I live in New Hampshire in the states ... in Maine ..and New Hampshire ...but especially Maine ..there are moose everywhere ... they are beautiful animals ..they really are ...not many think they are beautiful ...but I think they are .. :)

anyway
starting slow is good ..setting a goal for everyday ..take each day at a time ..don't rush it ... it will come off with every small change you make ..thats what I have learned and I have already lost five pounds since being on this forum ... so ... just take it slow and start walking ... that pedometer sounds awesome .. I was thinking of getting myself one ...but I figure the more hills I make it up ..and the longer I walk ...like forty minutes to an hour ..the better off I will be ...so I don't go by steps .. I just go my the minutes on my hand ...I have a timing watch ...its great ...
best wishes to you!
You sound very positive!

Start a diary ..they are fun ..read others diary ..you get some insight and see how you relate to other people on the site ...

best wishes hun

always

Hello! No no moose here :) I've just always been fascinated by them though. I collect stuffed moose :D.

Anyway I still haven't actually started on anything specific .. this is the problem I always have. Always putting things off till tomorrow! I guess a diary might help me focus and actually do something.
