eliptical trainer machine question

I've been doing a great workout on the elipticaltrainer.

I add time and degree of difficulty.

I have noticed my thighs, while getting stronger and firmer, which is great, are also getting larger. I don't want this to continue.
Should I be taking down the degree of difficulty and add time.

It's like this, I am doing around 50 minutes and have just changed from #7 on the random choice to hill climbing.
If I 'lessen the load' so to speak and add time will this trim the thighs? I certainly don't mind the muscle, I don't want thick thighs.

I also do a program of weights, both free weights and machines. This part of my regime lasts about 20-30 minutes, max.
I want to keep the muscle tone, without my thighs getting huge.
Any other exercises which can be offered would also be appreciated as will food choices.
