Has anyone ever tried using electronic muscle stimulators and has it helped? I had never considered using them untill a friend sugested it, I think it would feel like cheating. Any opinions?

I'd be pretty sure it is cheating and I wouldn't waste my money or time.

Gemma, read some diaries. Take the healthy path to weight loss. Patience is required but it works. Read my diary. I eat a lot of food. Its delicious and i lose weight. I don't find it hard. I enjoy my food a lot more than when i wasn't on a diet. And i'm losing weight!

I figure even if they do work (which I doubt, beyond say a rehabilitation setting), they're not going to help you get into long term habits which will help you lose weight or develop fitness (which is good not only for developing definition but keeping muscle), and without those habits you'll be unable to maintain the benefits that they might give you (and thus weight gain/ loss of muscle mass will recommence).

I find it EXTREMELY hard to beleive that those things actually work long term.

They wouldn't. I tore ligaments and did cartilage damage to my neck while playing football, which messed up my back pretty bad, and I had to attend physical therapy sessions for a few months. During the sessions, I had to rehab my neck back into shape. I had to run (which was bullshit, HAHAHA) and do all kinds of stretches. But, I also got ultrasound massages on my back, which aaaaalmost made up for it.

I also had a muscle stimulator used on my neck and back. The muscle stimulator does nothing but promote oxygen and blood flow through your muscles, which eases pain and tension. It's just a massage...not a work out. I got a muscle stimulator used on my neck and back 3 times a week for about 6 months, but I didn't walk out of my physical therapy stint with bulging muscles - it just helped relax my muscles, that's all.

So, no...they don't work. For massages they're great. For building muscle and getting into shape? Nothing but hype.
