Eight hours after the procedure

I did it. Took a while to make the decision, and 8 hours ago I left the hospital with my new BIB in place.

My wife found this website for me, and its great to see what others have gone through.

I read several posts that the first few days are tough, and I fully agree, it a weird feeling of having something implanted inside my body (sorry ladies), plus a strong feeling of nausea, and fullness. But the worst part, is the thirst. The doctor asked me to ease up on the fluids today, which I am. Not hungry at all, but really really thirsty.

To make it more interesting, I also had a colonoscopy, and got a hemmroid banded, so the discomfort is overwhleming.

Advice: Don't double up on your procedures..

I can settle for half the weight people have lost... I'm 6"1 and weigh 107KG, the doctor thinks I will lose 20+KG, I can settle for 15..

Gastric Balloon. In stomach..

30 hours now, and the nausea is not settling down..

For the people who did this a while ago, when does the nausea stop?

One week ago i had BIB inserted

For the first 4days i was unable to keep anything down even sips of water! i remained in bed nauseous, bloated and cramping pain and an uncomfortable "full" feeling. Then on 5th day a bit of improvemrnt still only aving around 300cal a day av ad to have extra time off work. I was not prepared for this.... today is day 6, and still very uncomfortable suffering bad reflux, just wana go back to bed!

Dont be disheartned its been nearly a week for me and i feel awful still??Fed up of being so miserable jus wana be led in bed!

A glimpse of relief?

Its close to 50 hours now, and I still can't keep anything down. The nausea is slightly improved, but I'm guessing that's due to medications the doc gave me. But the cramps and convulsions are wearing me down. I also, just want to stay in bed. I've not had anything other than lukewarm tea and some sugar free juice. VERY VERY thirsty, and every once in a while I feel a bit hungry.

I am so sorry that you have gone through such a difficult time.

I never went through any of that by steering away from the whole surgery option and simply trying harder with the whole nutrition and exercise thing.

Too many people find that too hard because they believe the rubbish spouted in a million magazines about having to limit your calorie intake too low. They start off at an unsustainable level - and give up after a few weeks... I failed on a lot of weight loss attempts before the last one which was successful. Many of us can believe that weight loss via exercise and nutrition alone is not possible for us because of past failures.

People think that such surgical procedures will save them from all of that - but it becomes clear to me that you still need to limit your food intake - and you risk a whole lot of other nasty side effects too. Balloons eventually are removed and weight will be regained if lifestyle changes are not adopted to improve nutrition and become more active...

I have nothing against surgery as such - and plan on having plastic surgery to help me with my loose skin problem. I know up front that it will be an unpleasant experience.

I sincerely hope that things improve for you both. There is a weight loss surgery section of the forum - where you may find some informative threads. Also there may be people posting there that have experience that can help you - that maybe do not scan the newcomer section.

I would encourage you to also become more active and improve your nutrition. The exercise and nutrition sections are as valuable to you as anyone else. Lifestyle changes need to be adopted by everyone to achieve true long term success.

Good luck - and I hope that you feel better soon.

A break through ?

Day 9...... Woke up this morning and was shocked to feel slightly better. It has been a rite struggle. I have attempted more solid foods, however, i am not tolerating these well so reverted back to sloppy. If i eat solid foood it seem to settle at the top of my stomach and give me an awful uncomfortable feeling. The only relief is to vomit yuk! The burps are stll horendous but neccessary to ease the uncomfortable feeling.:ack2:

Ive lost 1stone not surprisingly feeling weak and low in mood.
Must stay positive just imagining myself in the summer being able to sit in garden without covering myself from head to toe!

Wondering when i will be able to eat normal food i have had to have extra time off work aiming to go back on Mon. I do feel slightly hungry but the thirst is the hardest to cope with, i really want a talll cool drink but cant take it on board yet. Ope tommorow will be good.

not surgical

Thanks for your response however can i remind u that the gastric ballon is not a surgical proceedure and you still have to have willpower and maintain a healthly LF diet. It acts as a aid for 6mths in that time hopefully u will have re educated yourself to eat sensibly and control portion size. Excercise is strongly advised and support is available on a daily or weekly basis if needed. Well done on your weight loss and your plans for ? SURGERY to remove excess skin.

Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear how ill you are. I had my ballon put in 14days ago and the first night was hell, I couldn't sleep I was so uncomfortable but the next night I took muscle relaxants (don't know if thats allowed) and they helped a great deal. I even took them during the day when things were unbearable. I think I'm one of the lucky one because my vomiting only lasted 3days, but the discomfort, though not hectic is still there. I had mine done in SA and they didn't give me and diet reccomendations so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck hope it gets better
