eating right after a workout, weight loss

is it ok to eat a healthy meal right after an hour and a half of rigorous workout?( i mean will it affect your weightloss if you eat after a workout) i remember from a long time ago that someone told me that you have like a 30 minute period after working out where you can eat food and it gets quickly burned off because your bodys metabolism is so high at the time that it needs food.

btw im trying to help a friend of mine on losing 5 pounds in a week. every day, 45 minutes of full body workouts and 40 minutes on the elliptical machine. will it work?
