Eating fish and drinking milk?

Ive heard that if you eatfish and have some milk or have somthing that contains milk in it its bad for you because u get white spots all over you or on your face is this true?

Does anyone know?

I am a vegetarian and never have had any sea food. But my Jewish friend avoids it. Jewish people are forbidden that combination for health reasons. Donot know if there is any scientific reason for it. Even to a vegetarian like me, it certainly sounds an odd combination, but hey what do I know, I have never tasted fish in my life.

None? Ever? Wow. You have noooo idea what you are missing my friend.;)

I have personally had milk very soon after eating fish (like with birthday cakes, etc) many times and have had no problems at all. I believe I have heard that it will give you a stomach ache, but have never actually seen someone have a problem. I live in a coastal area, and we fry fish more often than we barbecue for family gatherings.

There might be some particular type of fish that reacts badly with milk or something, but I've had no problems with catfish, perch, RedDrum, BlackDrum, flounder and several others.

I am missing absolutely nothing, mate! Certainly not killing-another-life-to-stuff-my-belly. ;)
Sure it may taste good, but, my compassion for other lives is bigger than my taste buds. ;) And I would not change that for anything

I am assuming since you have never ever had it that this belief started with your parents and was taught to you?

Interesting how that works.

I was raised in a family where the men hunt and fish regularly. Our family also had hogs and cows raised for slaughter, and a complete meat processing room with a smokehouse attached. Of course, I was raised in the south by a traditional Christian family (insert Biblical references here), so that might have had something to do with all that.

I could not imagine life any other way, as I'm sure you could not as well.
Anyway, just a thought.

God, Allah, Buddah, Zeus...the god/dess...whatever your religious belief...know that a higher power put animals, fish, plants...on this Earth to sustain us.

I myself am of an eclectic nature religion/philosophy...I harm none. Yet I watch the spider catch the fly, the frog catch the spider, the hawk catch the frog, the hawk dies and falls to the ground, decomposes, feeds the grass, which the cow eats, which gets turned into steak.
the cycle of life can't be stopped. its not about compassion...its about purpose on this planet.

I myself am gunning for a trip to Red Lobster tonight, even though shellfish is high in cholesterol, and the drawn butter will be calling to me.

deschain / malkore,

I have been trying to avoid this thread because this could become a long thread. Hopefully it does not.

Beliefs are sensitive and very hard to say what is "right" or "wrong". Whatever brings peace and harmony to your innerself is "right" for you. Hence I donot judge or disrespect other beliefs and follow what is "right" for me.

Yes I inherited this belief-system from my family. My life book has Non-conformist written all over its pages. So many times, I have questioned this belief of not eating another life, and every time my innerself, very strongly, told me not to stuff my belly with another life because I have no right to take/end another life - a life which is harmless and non-threatening to my existence. Compassion for other lives gives me absolutely no reason to kill another harmless life.

Hi malkore, Not according to my beliefs. According to my beliefs, animals also have right to co-exist on this planet and mother nature supports us all equally. My beliefs donot tell me that God put animals on this earth for us to kill and eat.

Well maybe thats why animals donot follow a religion or philisophy.
Also carnivorous HAVE to eat animals to survive - like it is their karma. They have no choice, but, we humans HAVE. We donot have to eat animals to survive.
Notice the teeth/claws a lion has and compare it with teeth/nails a human being has. If God wanted us to eat flesh, maybe He would have given us different sets.
It is simple for me. I believe in God and believe that He is the creator. He put life into humans, animals and that is not for me to decide when to end another life - a life that does not threathen my survival. (Notice how I said "me" rather than "us" because I donot judge what is right for others.)

Sure enjoy, you are only doing what your innerself tells you. I am sure this is what works for you.

You are absolutely correct in that we all must decide what we believe to be right. In no way was I trying to judge your beliefs or practices. As a Christian, my beliefs are based upon the Bible, hence the joke about inserting Biblical references.

Besides, I love animals. Really, I do. They're delicious. :p

(ok, ok, corny joke)

Look at what I stumbled upon! OK, I'll make it brief since this is a complete tangent! Aside from creationist and evolution theories, by simple deductive reasoning, anyone who looks at the tooth and jaw structure of a homo sapien and other similar omnivorouis mammals will conclude a striking similarity. There are sharp and dull teeth to accomodate a mixed diet. Why do we have canines? Why do we have an appendix, an organ that supposedly once aided in the digestion of raw meat?

But being a non conformist myself, I see all plants, minerals, and non physical enerigies as alive and conscience, so vegetarians and vegans kill living things everyday too. You breath in millions of bacterium and micro organisms, consume them in every breath, and these are animals too! Conscious, reproducing, and thiving aminals! Just because you can't see it walking around and making noise does not mean it is not alive, it is not an animal, and it is not intended to contribute back to the ecosphere. Do some research on the invention of the microscope. People freaked out when they found that there were these livings things everywhere in the air and invisible to the naked eye. Talking about eyes, you have microscopic worms that live on the roots of your eye lashes that help rid the body of foreign toxins.

OK, I'll shut up now....
