DWWISE83's Final Stretch : The Last 20 Pounds

That is what I thought it was - I saw the post on your forum and downloaded the book. I want to start reading it this weekend - what I've read so far is really good!

The EXERCISE Plan

Since I revamped my diet, I thought I would also restructure my exercise plan. Previously I was running. 5 days a week, just running. I now know that was probably a bad idea :)

My new plan still includes running, but also weight training (like I should have been doing all along!) I have to admit that I am pretty clueless when it comes to weight lifting (or any exercise other than running...) I've been doing some research and tried to develop a plan that would 1.) fit into my lifestyle and 2.) not kill a novice like me!

Monday
-Rest Day

Tuesday
-Short run (between 2-4 miles)
-push-ups; sit-ups

Wednesday
-weights

Thursday
-Short run
-push-ups; sit-ups

Friday
-weights

Saturday
-push-ups; sit-ups
-Yoga

Sunday
-Long run

Running: I know I still need cardio because I still have a good bit of fat to lose. Instead of running 5 times a week I will only go 3 times a week. I'm going to go as far as possible during my long runs and moderate distances on short runs... although I did 4.5 miles on Tuesday :)

Push-ups / sit-ups: I am doing the 100 push-up challenge and 200 sit-up challenge. It is 3 days/week for 6 weeks. I know it may seem lame to some, but working toward a deadline really helps me and I really want an extra focus on my torso.

Weights: I am following the 5X5 program that I saw on this forum in a few places. I only have 10 pound weights at home and some bands, so this program my not work for me in the long term. I may revamp the weight portion once I do more research. I'm basically doing something for now until I find the right exercises, etc...

Yoga: I have a nice yoga dvd made especially for runners - I will do this on Saturday to prepare for my long run on Sunday.

As always, any advice is appreciated!

Hey ya gotta start somewhere with the weight lifting so it sounds good to me. In the Advanced forum I was asking about doing the 100 pushup challenge in conjunction with my normal weight lifting routine and everyone who replied said not to. They recommended I just do pushups on my upper body days as a warm up to my chest exercises. Since you are going so light with the weight lifting though, I think you will be fine. After the pushup challenge is over though, you probably will need to go heavier. It will all be great for you though and these are the kinds of challenges and newness we all need in our routines.

Glad to see you are so motivated again. Don't forget to take good photos of yourself NOW and then again in 6 weeks so you can see that you are getting more toned.

YAYAY - just got the key to the fitness center in my townhouse community. I went to check it out and they have tons of free weights (up to 50 pounds) and a weight bench! I am so excited... this is exactly what I need to move forward

hehe, I'm here! I've been out of town w/o internet access since last Thursday afternoon.

diet kinda sucked while I was visiting family. exercise = fail.

more to come...

:)

Don't you hate that. You never realize just how much you depend on the internet until you don't have access. Makes you wonder how any of these kids now days would survive without it like what most of us did growing up. They wouldn't know what to do.

Well, I haven't updated this journal in quite a while. I think everyone knows what that means :/

I'm honestly scared to get on the scale, I haven't done so in a week and 1/2. It's been two weeks now that I've been 'off the wagon'... I haven't done awful each day, but definitely most. I feel huge! lol

I'm doing better today, mentally and food-wise. I'm back in my safe-zone (my desk at work) where I'm surrounded by healthy foods. I am going to eat as healthy as possible today and tomorrow and face the scale on Wednesday. I anticipate seeing the dreaded 180 again, lets just hope it's nothing higher!

HE'S ALIVE!!!!!

:smilielol5:

Sorry had to say it.

I know what you are going thru dude. It sucks when you know your not going to be where you think you should or even worse knowing your not going to be there because of what you didn't do.

I was looking at my past couple of months weight and man talk about a downer. I spent the last 8 weeks between 178 and 182.

But rest asured you will overcome. I did and now it is all behind me, just like it will be for you. We all hit road blocks. It what we do when we're there is the real question. You either give up or die trying. In the time I've known I believe you will command and conquer and get threw it.

Good luck....

Well said GGH!

DW, don't worry man. Just watch out for the all or nothing thought process. Don't forget how long it has taken to get this far. Well, its going to take even longer to finish it. As in, the rest of your life. At least in some ways. I mean that is what we want, to be healthy and fit for life, right?

I have been stuck between 193 and 198 for 3 months!!! I'm not happy about it but I am happy about the way I look and feel compared to just over 1 year ago. I couldn't even jog a 1/4 mile one year ago. Today I am doing sprint triathlons, I practically live at the gym and now I'm even attempting mixed martial arts and surviving the workouts! I would have died a year ago, almost literally. I'm sure you can say similar things about yourself. Be proud of those accomplishments and just keep on plodding. You'll get there. In some ways, you already are.

Where you at DW?

You've been MIA for long enough.

Talk to us.

Well, in the past 5 days I've been to Hudson FL, Denver CO, Rockville MD, Wichita KS, and St Louis MO.

I travel for work and have been on the road like crazy. I wish I could say that I've been doing well with my diet, but it's been going really badly. I've been eating dinner (and not the good kind) at 12-1am because of my travel schedule and I haven't exercised in 2 weeks. I feel disgusting.

I have no idea what the scale says, I'm going to get on for the first time in several weeks tomorrow. I'm nervous. I'm expecting the worse... but....

I'm ready to impove and get back to 176-180. If I could stick to this weight range while traveling I would be more than happy :)

I will write again tomorrow when I weigh-in. I'm going to Houston, TX on Wednesday and Thursday and i am really going to work on a plan to eat healthier and exercise while on the road :)

Thanks for checking in everyone - I really need the motivation right now :/

He must be on the road again.

At least that better be the reason DW.

I know you haven't quit on us have you?

I hate to say it, but for a while there, I did quit; and my growing waist line proves it. I've been off of the road for two weeks, but have lost control of the diet... badly. Don't even mention exercise... non-existant.

A friend of mine sent me a text message today to see how I was (I haven't talked to her in a little while) and I was honest and told her about my gain. She gave me a much needed kick in the ass.

I'm going running with her tomorrow night and vowed to go grocery shopping IMMEDIATELY to get healthy food.

For the last 8 weeks I've been completely avoiding my weight. I haven't weighed myself. I haven't logged into this website. I move my tight clothes (that were lose a few weeks ago) to the back of the closet. I didn't want to face the truth, and more importantly, I didn't want to stop eating badly.

It has to end. Here and now.

I am going to start logging my food again, diligently. I'm not ready to weigh myself yet (I don't want my failure shoved in my face) but I am going to next week. And I'm going to start running again. I've truly missed it and I'm ready to get back on the road again.

ahh, I feel better. Now to make a grocery list :)

Well as long as your back now. But the next time I'm going to fly my ass back from Kuwait and :boxing: your senses back.

Don't give up Brother, you have come way to far to fail now.

Well, I did get on the scale yesterday, afterall. And the results were not nice. I've gained 20 pounds.

20!

Needless to say, that was the punch in the stomach I needed. I've done great yesterday and today (although it's only 930am :) ) I went running last night, and it felt wonderful. I did 2.2 miles and had a pretty good pace, especially considering I've been out of it for a while. Food was great, too.

I'm happy to be back, and I will be even more happy when I get on the scale again next Wednesday and see a LOWER number.

Thanks for the support everyone (even though I tried to ignore it...) It really made a huge difference!
