Droping The Weight Before A Wedding

I just bought my dress last week!!!! Very excited. I'm not sure which I was more excited about...the dream dress or the fact that it was a size 12! That's two sizes smaller than when I last tried dresses on!!! I got it as a sample sale to boot, so it didn't break the bank.

Here's a link if you guys are curious.

Hey Luciouslemon...it is a beeeeeeaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuttttttiiiiiiiiiifffffffffuuuuuulllllll dress. I love the way the folds arrange on the skirt and flow into the tail....You are going to look smashing in it :)

Awesomet thread! My sister is engaged and the wedding is going to be in Summer of 2009 as well. I'm going to be a bridesmaid so I'm really looking forward to shedding some pounds and looking great in a summer bridesmaid gown ^_^

Bling,
Thanks! I really love it. Its definitely good motivation. I want to look absolutely smashing in it.

Welcome JulianaRose. Always glad to have a new face around here. Have you picked out the dresses yet?

Thank you lusciouslemon! I love this site, it's so great and is very motivational.

My sister's wedding is going to be very traditional but the theme is white black and red, so the bridesmaid dresses are going to be most likely some kind of red spagetti strap :)

I'm getting married on the 11th too!! I don't know a whole lot of people who choose Friday weddings so that excites me, lol. I just had the best workout and discovered that I absolutely LOVE canned peaches! that's good cuz i'm getting sick of eating apples all the time for my fruit.

Hi! I'd love to join this club, as trying on wedding dresses was what made me realize I need to make changes to get healthy and lose weight!

J and I are planning a Sunday wedding in Oct. 2009 (either the 18th or 25, haven't decided). We're not "officially" engaged, as there is no ring on my finger, but we've talked about it, started planning, and he even asked if I'd marry him. I think a ring is coming soon! *squee*

While I have quite some time before my wedding, my best friend and bridesmaid asked if we could go dress shopping. I think she's more excited than I am right now! Anyway, I agreed, but told her I wouldn't buy anything or make any decisions this early on. She said ok, and off to the store we went.

I tried on a few dresses and realized that, while they were nice, I hated the way I looked. I've been steadily gaining weight every year for the past few years. I've said I need to lose it, but have never actually done anything about it.

Then, there I was, standing in a mirror in a dress that I might wear on my wedding day, and all I saw was a fat girl in a big dress. I honestly didn't recognize myself anymore. It was then and there I knew I had to resolve to get rid of this extra weight and become a healthier person for me and my FH.

I look forward to hearing about your stories, weddings, and of course, weight loss progress!!!

oh mani wish id lost weight before getting married.

I would love to get re-married and do it so much better! I found some pics of our wedding just the other week and boy oh boy it was bad.

Respect goes out to those who look fantastic on their day! and slimmer too!

Welcome!!! Congratulations on your officially not-official engagement. LOL. Yup, I've been there with the dress trying-ons. I've got to say it was motivation for me, too (and it still is). Stick to your guns and you'll be the bride you want to be by October!!!

Thanks!

Yeah, every once in a while I'll look at a few dresses online, see the skinny chick wearing it, and wonder if it could look that good on me, too. (Then again, I'll never be that tan...my poor melatonin-challenged skin!) Regardless, it's definitely good motivation!

Hahaha. Yes my skin is challenged, too. My freckles are the only parts that go brown. The rest just turns red! Good ol' tan in a bottle for me!

Its fun looking at dresses online, but it really doesn't give a good idea of what looks good on "normal people". After I tried on a bunch of dresses I got a better idea of what was a definite no-no and what was a possibility. Check out Maggie Sottero. Her dresses have to be the most flattering for women. And they fit the very very best (in my experience and from what I've heard). Her site is pure eye-candy if nothing else. I was fortunate to get one on a sample sale and it is so comfy. I ain't going to be falling out anywhere...LOL!

I saw the pic of your dress. It's beautiful! You'll be a damn sexy bride! ;)

Funny you mention this designer. My fave dress so far is by her. I love love love it! Unfortunately, unless I find a sale, it seems to be out of my budget. I'm keeping my eye open for it though...just in case!

I love the gold color. :)

That is gorgeous.

Yup, if it wasn't for a sample sale I would have been SOL. Though I really wanted a Maggie, I didn't think I would get one because of the $$$. Its funny to think that she is considered one of the more reasonably priced designers. I guess when some people spend 5 grand on a dress, 1 grand seems low. Not in my world however...

I tried not to set my heart on one particular dress because it would have been too hard to realize I couldn't afford it. Instead I had a vague idea of what kind of style I wanted but would pick a dress that was the right price and suited my body. The best thing is to remain open minded. There are thousands of gorgeous dresses out there... there never is only one perfect dress for a person.

Hey, I forgot about this site and just got an email today! I haven't been on here in about a year and I think its really wierd that I found this thread. I am getting married on May 31st (this year) trying to loose a little weight (more for the honeymoon) but I am having trouble .. just at a plataue. I have been eating smaller portions and exercising 3X a week for about a month and have lost 5lbs. Not bad but I would like to loose about 7-10 more. I have my dress and its being altered right now so I can't loose to much but I need to tone a lot!! anyway good luck to all of you in this thread and I am so glad I found this!

It funny how you find the sweetest little places when you aren't looking. Hope you enjoy our little wedding nook. Its a fun little diversion. Good luck on your impending wedding bliss!

Hey yogabootygirl! I'm pretty much in the same situation as you! I forgot about the site and remembered about it again. I'm getting married this July and want to lose about 10 pounds and tone up! I lost some a while back but i've been stuck for what seems like forever. Good luck and maybe we can motivate each other!

It's been over a month since I posted too. I never got around to posting that I got officially engaged on valentines day, hooray! There is a proposal story on my wedding website for those interested: .

I haven't lost any weight the last month either. I thought I was losing, but then I went on birth control and I think I gained a couple pounds because of it. Did anyone else gain weight from birth control pills? I was also sick this month, and stopped exercising. I need to get back with it!!! Only 3.5 months left for me too. More like 3 months 1 week.
