Well. Here goes. First day to the forums... and i thought I would get a running start.. so to speak.

some stats.. based on most recent drs visit

22 years old, 289lbs (which was unexpected.. kinda scared me) and 5'2'' and half

Currently on Metformin for PCOS and to help avoid becoming diabetic..

First goal, get through the holidays... (and finals)

-Cut out sodas and fast food. Even if I changed NOTHING else about my lifestyle, I know that would make a big difference.

-Would like to see results within a month.. nothing big.. just 'something' to get me motivated. I am going to NYC on Jan 8th and expect that trip to boost some wtloss with all the walking and busyness of being there.

- subsequent goal would be for March. Potentially seeing someone I havent seen in awhile. would be nice to look better than i did last time i saw him.

Havent quite picked apart goal specifics yet. And too, i have yet to decide upon a plan of action. I am open to suggestions especially from people in a similar situation (as far as age, pcos, stuck in the college lifestyle of apt living and funds not making for the best food choices) I do have the MakeoverAmerica information at my disposal, but again, that requires a certian amt of energy (cooking meals) and funds to follow the guidelines.

Anyways... thanks for reading and I look forward to being here.

Hey Amy, hows it going?

i just go for the healthy eating an excercise option. m i ryt in saying that PCOS ladies need to excercise more to lose weight or is that some random info ive got from sumwer. try different workout strategies. walking is always a good thing to do. i know quite a few people who have walked their way to their goal weight. r u a gym memeber? what kind of access have you got to excercise? don't cut anything out compltely from your diet if youre anything like me youll end up binging. dont worry about a specific excercise plan. do what you can when you can. dont worry if you slip up. think about hw much youve done rather than the 'mistakes' you've made. i know im rambling a bit but i hope something helps from my rambling. lol.

anyway good luck with your plan and the journey. keep us updated.

;-)

Just to say that I am a PCOS lady. I find walking to be very effective in helping me to lose weight and would strongly suggest that you get a pedometer and try walking more - together with eating a healthy balanced diet of course.

I am a fair bit older than you - but my start weight was similar to your current weight and at 5ft3 I have a good idea of life where you are - I have lived my last 20 years at that size. Until I started walking - I never managed to ever lose weight effectively.

Best wishes
Margaret

ok. here we go.

Well. heres post #2.

Thank you to the gals who responded earlier.

I still have no plan and have made no progress really. Except for the soda thing. As much as I crave the carbonation and such, Im pretty much without dark soda completely (except for yesterday..oops) and if i have to ill drink a caffiene free clear pop. but thats not been an issue. I hate the way my water tastes, so im kinda diggin on the chocolate milk (dont like the taste of plain milk). Ill get on the water here soon. Orange juice (of varying quality...) has taken its place too.

I havent stepped on a scale in a long time. I think Im going to wait until i feel 'good' to do that. until then, unfortunately my focus is school. The weather is wonderful, so im thinking walking to class and such will work out nicely.

Id like to join a challenge here, but i dont see any starting up soon...

alrighty. thats it for now.

Ok. so i just ordered JUST MY SIZE YOGA (or something like that) with megan garcia. step in the right direction, yea?

Sounds good. I used to have a yoga miniball workout that I used to do. Even though I was pretty much sitting the whole time, it really made me work up a sweat.

Good job on cutting out the soda. The way I switched to water was to drink tea since it helped with the caffeine headaches I would get. The more you drink water the more your body craves it, so once you get into the habit it's easy to keep up. Good luck.

ok. monday. gonna start keeping track of things. this spring weather is definately inspiring, giving energy and all...
ive got a chart/list thing that im keeping track of things daily. It serves as a reminder and just an easy way to keep track. Tracking water, food, and exercise. If all are met, then i get a star or sticker : )

Food/activity Diary Mon. Mar. 31.

um not really a good 'diet' day. I need to get groceries, and until then, im stuck with whatever i have left.. .so until then...

(cringe) chips
homemade quesadilla, tortillas with taco cheese

its kindof a gross day too, so nothing outstanding as far as exersize goes....

So. just weighed in and it says 285. I dont trust that scale very much. One, it wavers and dosent really settle on a number. Two, its called a strain gauge and im not sure if thats completely the same thing, but its got the same purpose. but, the goal is to make a difference from one number to the next. As long as that is happeining, thats all that matters at this point.

And i joined the april 2lb per week challenge.

... I forwent having to pay for parking and left my car at the free parking at the top of a hill. instead i bought a water : )

pbnj sammich

walked to class (and back) instead of driving...

farina/cream of wheat with cinn. and pinch of sugar
one egg with syrup (thought id forgo the katchup)

and hopefully that will help keep impulse buying at bay when i go shopping here in a few (maybe....)

the end

ick. my total for shopping was 10-20 more than usual. grr. hopefully it will last for awhile tho.

I needed to add a couple things to the end of my food entry for today and then head to bed.

Chips and salsa. close to the recomended serving size -IN a bowl as to not eat out of and have the bag handy. AND I dont like anything in salsa except for the juicy bits... I shudder at tasting and feeling the actual bits of food in there, although its prolly good for ya. ah well.

And some lipton green tea with citrus, like... half of the 1.5 liter bottle. I love this stuff. yeah its not straight up green tea, but its NOT soda, and it still has good stuff from the tea and citrus. so... there :p

ok. goodnight yall.

UGHHHH i had this all filled out and then it disappeared : (

anywho...
breakfast: special K (awesomer than i expected) banana and yogurt... but i wasnt fond of the yogurt.

some tostitos to hold me over.

to class and back involves a lil walk, but thats already a given, so nothing new.
for lunch i had a salad with cheese and ranch... and cheese curds on the side..

took some tostitos and salsa to class.

2 puddings when i got home : ( ah well. tapioca

up to now, ive had about a half of a gallon of water..hopefully more by the end of the day.

Im planning on walking to class. and grabbing one more snack (maybe) before that. prolly a banana???

and then something a bit more filling after class for dinner. maybe some of that special k or....oh i got a ham and potato soup thing...

more later

but it wasnt. i had some cottage cheese too later. eek.

ok. so to avoid morning munchies, im having a fuller bowl of special k with a banana. then i have class and then work, so that should work until lunchtime. Im going to bring along my green tea (lipton citrus) and drink onthat for the morning.

Im noticing that with the extra water drinking and stuff, i have to remember to keep in mind all the times I will need to go to the bathroom. In the middle of class is just not convienient :/

so, yesterday was a bad day. cant let it get to me. not only 'diet' wise, but life and emotional wise... ugh. ahwell.

ok, so i think i post here waaaay too much already, but even after yesterdays dastardly regression... i still managed to lose about 2lbs. I dont want to get too excited yet.... but i am.

so. i made and updated a ticker and tomorrow i will offically weigh in on the april 2lbs a week challenge.
woot.

Hey girl,
Your story is a lot like mine, I'm 22 as well and was in college until a few months ago. I gained a lot of weight in college, and I know as well as ANYONE how hard it is to feel unattractive at our age. If you need any extra encouragement or need a weight loss buddy, pm me!

Carrie

breakfast: cake (sounds wierd yeah, but its all that was there. was unfrosted... white cake... and that was all)
i dont know what else really. um.. might have had special k, and... some tostitos with cheese.
then for dinner i made some homemade mack n cheese with elbow mack and cheese soup with colby sprinkled on top.
almost thru the gallon from the other day... and the green tea...

Got my yoga video today and tried it out. gonna have to do it a few more times before i really digg it. anywho. thats all for now.

Hey buddy,
I think it's normal to have an off day like you described, I'm proud of you for still watching what you ate and being careful, when I got upset like that the first thing I would reach for is junk food. Chocolate was a must. Emotional eating is something I'm trying to get away from. Anyway, hope your day tomorrow is a lot better, I'm sure it will be. See ya later, alligator! :waving:
