Downtown's Daily Diary

The good news is I lost 5 lbs. since my first weight loss class! I didn't go to last week's because I was sick. What helped was cutting down on portion size without omitting anything. The only foods I haven't cut down on is veggies and try to eat at least one everyday.

I also try to get to the pool at least twice a week. I plan on going again either tomorrow or Friday. I think spending 2 hours in the pool before class helped too. :hurray:

Awesome job on the 5 lbs that is awesome!!!!!

That class sounds like a good way to keep accountable. :)

Portion size is vital! I think you can eat the foods you like if you're doing it in the right portions. Optimally better food choices for almost all meals would be best but hey, if you want that pizza once in a while then have that pizza just make sure it's only a piece or two and not a half a pizza! lol... I still eat the stuff I like too, I just try and make sure it's healthy most of the time.

You're doing great so far, can't wait until your next update!

Thanks for the encouragement Risty! The following week I gained back 3 pounds, but I've lost it again, so I'm still 2 points lost.

I'm still going to the pool when I can, but I've been working more hours, which is actually a good thing. Since getting laid off from my full-time job last year, the only work I've been able to find is substituting teaching. I plan on going after work on Wednesday.

One thing that helps me keep off the pounds is that I have a psychological need to have dessert, so instead of ice-cream or frozen yogurt (which I love and used to have a lot) I've switched to a piece of Lindt chocolate and that satisfies me.

Hey no problem! I'm glad to be encouraging you :D

This is kinda funny that you mention the psychological need to have dessert because I was just talking to my mom about that. My dad and mom want to lose weight but they're not doing anything about it. So I told her to start with just not buying desserts and then out came all the excuses about how they don't eat much dessert (only 2 cookies and milk, or whatever) and how just after dinner she needs something sweet. I told her that she thinks that way because that's always what she's done. I suggested fruits instead and she of course said, I do have fruits instead sometimes. But yeah, she's the same way with needing something. At least you're doing other things to progress your weight loss and one piece of chocolate won't kill you. But for them if they do nothing at least cutting out desserts will help. Those 2 cookies and milk add up everyday!

Good job on going to the pool. I'll be moving in the summer to my grandparents house and then I'll be close to this one gym/pool and the membership is for both parts. I may get a membership, if I can get a ride with my sister. If not, then I don't know if I'll go. I don't want to pay insurance for my car just to get to the gym, lol.

Yah, another success this week. I had a 3 lb. loss at the weight class. I even splurged on 3 thick slices of peperoni pizza! But I think because I was conscientious of what I was eating the rest of the week, plus going to the pool helped. I also worked 3 days last week which helps because I'm more on a regular routine and not reaching for stuff in the cupboards at home.

Awesome job! I would kill for a 3 lb loss *jealous* LOL... Keep up the great work!

PS - I had pizza too... unfortunately I have 2 MORE slices than you did... Naughty naughty me! :p

This weight loss class is done and I've signed up for another that starts the last week of April. My total weight loss this session was 4.25 lbs. I had a 2/3 lb. weight gain this week. I don't feel too bad about it because I consider it just a weight fluctuation. I went to the pool today too. Maybe I gained muscle? ;)

Yeah weight fluctuation happens so you can't worry about it too much. Just keep going and it'll go down and stay down!

Good luck on your next class!

So far, I've lost 6 lbs. in this new class. What's helping me is that I'm now on an insulin pill. Last month I went to the doctor. I thought I should have my blood sugar checked because diabetes runs in my family, plus the fact that I'm overweight. It was high and I was put on Metformin.

My last check-up on Thursday was very encouraging. My sugar was lower as was my weight. My medication was lowered from 1000 mg. to 500mg. a day. The drug helps stabilize my sugar levels so I'm not getting those sudden dips and highs and reach for something to eat. I'm not hungry as often and don't experience the cravings like I used to. When I'd get hungry, I have the shakes and get really weak and tired. Since being on the medication, I still get hungry, but not ravishingly hungry nor feel weak and sick.

I still go to the pool once or twice a week. I'm still unable to walk long distances because of my arthritic leg.

So that's the health update! I'm happy to report something positive. :hurray:

Congrats on your weight loss! I'm proud of you!

It's good that you got your blood sugar checked. Not only will it help you to know about it and be on the medication, but you can also help and reduce the meds with proper eating and exercise (like you have, yay for you!!!) but maybe even be able to not need it completely! You always see on the biggest loser how when they've been eating right and exercising they come of a lot if not all of their meds.

I'm so happy that you've lost some weight! Good job!

Hope your leg will slowly be able to endure more :)
