I just quit smoking 2 weeks ago, and started exercing for 6 weeks now. I am slim.44 years old, 5.5', 129 lbs, and lost 2 pound already. Doing cardio at home with "The firm" DVD's 5 times a week , I just want to tone my muscle without losing weight because I am already too skyni, what can I do?
Thank you in advanced

Try some resistance training 3 days a week and cut the cardio back to 2 days a week. Check out the stickies in the weight lifting section for some ideas on routines for beginners. "Toning" is the process of replacing fat with muscle. Don't be afraid to lift heavy weights.

or more specifically, toning is the process of losing bodyfat so the muscle underneath becomes more visible and defined.

the problem is if you lack muscle mass in the first place, losing bodyfat just leaves you looking scrawy, not 'toned', athletic or 'fit'.

in your case it does sound like too little lean muscle mass on your frame already, so losing body fat just makes you look scrawny. As dswitchers said, pick up some weights. As a beginner trainee, you can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, for a few weeks at least. after that it becomes a little more tricky, but if you keep eating the same amount of calories, you'll slowly melt fat and gain muscle. you'll just have to stick to it because the progress will be a little slow.
