nice to see that you have started sharing. It is not that we are all experts here [or qualified dieticians or fitness trainers] but we are all friends and we share experiences and discuss things and some of the advice and anecdotes thrown around do help people.

From what you have shared, it shows that you like to nibble away when you are in company of someone who is eating [especially with someone who you love being with]. To me, that is so natural and sweet and i think a lot of us will tend to do the same. Food is something I love and it satisfies one of our senses. We love to share activities that satiates our senses with people we love or people whose company we love. We sit down for a good movie or play; we listen to a favorite song together and we do vacations together, etc.

I think one should not fight this but try and channelize this urge to something that works for you. All you need to do is balance out what you eat during the other times of the day such that you can eat with your boyfriend and yet not harm yourself. Once you start doing this consciously, you will soon build up willpower and that will help you to start taking smaller portions of all the delicious food, such that you are in control of what you eat and not the other way round.

Other than that, losing weight is not rocket science unless you have a medical condition. Just start exercising and increasing the volume very gradually in addition to maintaining your diet diary. Change to healthier foods instead of foods that are rich in calories and do not have any volume.

Keep it going...and keep all posted.

I have triggered my mind set to eat less during the day and try to think less of food. When he gets home late after work is usually when we eat dinner. My goal is to not eat that much during dinner since it is so late. I am slowly running out of the healthier types of food and cannot go grocery shopping for awhile. So I'm kinda stuck with what I have to do my best with. I finally hit a lower weight this morning and I'm so excited! I am current 246.2lbs. I'm slowly getting there. What still upsets me is that just a month ago I was at 237 and I jumped up so much during the vacation and now I am struggling to get back down. I know I can do it if I just put my mind to it! I don't exercise at all. I know that is going to kill me but I don't have the money for a gym and I am really skeptic about doing exercising outside by myself. I have a hard time trusting anyone and in my area of town there is alot of traffic. I have tried those DVDs at home but I get so bored with them and give up easily. I know the first year I started this weight loss journey I did lose 60lbs without any exercising and just watched what I ate. I think I will have a better chance doing the same thing if I can get just get my mind set back to what it was back then. I think its time to stop going out to eat. That is my problem. I crave greasy food and it kills me! With us going through this money struggle I should have better luck at getting motivated to eat better.

I hear you and know what you mean and would have you know that a financial issue happens to a lot of people. The thing is that it leads to stress and for people like us, it translates into unhealthy eating and habits. You should not compound the stress by spending on the gym and then feeling guilty. We all start our journey to fitness because that makes us happier at the end of the day.

Frankly speaking, the gym is good to go to, but it is not a 'must'. When I used to be a fat boy as a teenager, I used to hate exercising with others/ outdoors, as I was very shy about my fatness and my lack of fitness. I would be mortified if someone would stare at me struggling to do a few exercises. To top it all, I did not have much money either. So all I invested in was a skipping rope [that too the most ordinary one]. I would lock myself in a room and exercise for 2 hours or so in my own privacy, with the music turned up loud. I eventually saved up to buy one chest expander [rubber/ spring thingees with handles], but that was after a few months of just skipping and free hands.

The thing is there are alternatives to weights, if you look around the house. There has to be a ledge from where you can hang and do pull ups; two chairs to prop your self up to do dips ,,,and then combine them with a whole array of free hand exercises. These will not make your muscles grow much, but if I am not mistaken, that is not what you are looking for. The muscles will tone up in no time and your endurance will increase. That coupled with the aerobic exercise that skipping or on the spot jogging/ good mornings, etc will lead you to your goal surely.

I agree...that it may be boring for a while; but the day the results start to be discernible, you will not get bored anymore and your self esteem will shoot up by leaps and bounds.

I wish you the best and hope your troubles end soon. Getting fitter will also help achieve this as your overall outlook to life will improve

Thanks for the great tips! I will try to look around the house and see what can be used for my advantage. I cannot wait until I start seeing the differences!

lexa...agree with you. Running is great and one does not need any money for it.

Having said that, I personally am not fond of running so I substitute with cycling. Started off on flat ground and now do uphill. In one way this is a gentler form of exercise for people who are overweight as it does not stress the knees as much as running does.

But again: running needs just shoes and no other gear, whereas with cycling one needs a cycle [obvious] and soon other gear starts to creep in.

Your decision to run in the morning is really good for many reasons besides the ones that you have said. It wakes you up and mornings have an exhilarating effect on both body and mind.

Cheers

A few years ago I tried running but after a week my ankles gave out on me and I could hardly walk for the next couple days. I have sprung both of my ankles twice when I was in grade and middle school so I have weak ankles and horrible balance. I prefer walking but no one wants to go walking with me.

Honestly before I get into losing weight, my biggest weakness is eating, can stop eating just like you. But time comes when I think of it that I am really overweight I am motivated and take diet.

well Jane...at the moment I am going through a phase where I have abandoned my strict diet for a month or so. But I make sure that I do not overeat and that has maintained my weight and girth. At first I was feeling very guilty about abandoning my diet...but there is only so many days that you can be so strict with yourself. Have to live life too :) The thing is to be conscious about it and that way you will not put on at least.

...Have a college reunion end of Dec...I better start now ;-)
