don't agree with "ideal" weight standards

Who else feels the "ideal" weight for sex, height, & age is off? It says I should weigh more than I am, or even that I am at the low end of the healthy scale.
I am fm, 25, 5ft 1" and 107lbs. To weigh anymore I would have to stuff myself with food nonstop daily which would hurt. And to lose more than 3lbs has become extremely difficult. The reason why this is important to me is I look for a source to tell me at what weight I would look best & feel great. But I think that the general rule for "ideal" is off because for example I have an apple shape body. Where no fat goes to my limbs (legs, lower arms) and I have practically no chest, it is all centered around my stomach, somewhat on butt & thighs so that I am somewhat chubby in this area.
First of all, apple type bodies with fat in the stomach have more unhealthy risk factors. Some people would say "do crunches" but I've tried this & we know that the only way to get rid of the stomach fat is to lose weight overall. Also, apple type lose troubled weight more easily than pear bodies. So for me I would feel more comfortable at 100lbs or even 98lbs which is not in accordance with the "ideal" standards. And then along with loosing a few vanity lbs. do crunches to tone that area.
Not only that, when I try to wear a cute shirt that is tight to my stomach, you can really see love handles & lower abdominal fat hanging over. This is not just my imagination, my whole family notices it. Their response is to do crunches, but honestly it does not remove the fat or really help because my muscles are hidden under the fat. Also my fat percent is pretty high especially for my weight. In my college health class, the teacher measured us and I was shocked to see it said I was fairly overweight in fat. It frustrates me because so many people who see my skinny lower legs & lower arms can't imagine that I would need to lose any, & then I see the ideal standards. But after reading about how to truly get rid of it I know differently. Does anyone feel the same way? Or in the same situation?

Last of all, (I don't ever smoke, drink maybe once a mo., almost never eat out, but plan on never eating fast food again) I am currently trying to stick to a regular routine of jogging 3 miles everyother day, spending 10 mins or so doing crunches, pushups etc. And trying to eat less sugars & more healthy food. I will update on how this goes, as I'm going to work hard for my new years resolution.

I weight less than I am suppose to. I am about 5lbs short of my ideal weight but I have nothing to lose either. I am confortable with my current weight. Its been long since I tried to add...it didnt work then. I don't go for fast foods either.

My doc has not said I am underweight, which is what the charts would say. I guess the ideal weight is for guidance only and you do not want to be way off on either side.

Thanks to both of you. : ) I like the crunches site. So far I've slacked just a little because it's that time of the mo. & if I workout I will roll over in pain. But I'll update one month from now, what my progress becomes.
I know the reason I have a high fat % is due to my unhealthy eating style of chocolate, candy, tons of caffine with sugar, etc. And I used to work out years ago, on a regular basis but due to my crazy schedule of at least one to two jobs plus college has set me back. I'm pretty serious about this resolution so I will let you know how it goes.

well i dont agree with the idea weight i am classfied as underweight at the moment im 5,9 and 119lb and im trying to get down to 115lb

I recently did a course on the Sociology of Health, and one of the conclusions that I arrived to after taking it is that concepts such as the ideal weight standards are highly relative, and may vary depending on many things, sometimes even on your country of residence? As a good example, our professor was a qualified medical practicioner with over 30 years of experience. She spent most of her life in the UK, where she her weight was regarded as normal. After moving to France a year ago and applying for local insurance, she was immediately classed as "obese". She could not believe it, and neither could the person examining her medical condition - in fact, he told her that, to his eye, she's clearly not overweight, but, on the other hand, he had government regulations which labelled her weight/height ratio as being in the obese category.

The point is that given how relative such concepts are, I'm really not inclined to put any stock in them, and neither should anyone else , especially if it makes them feel worse about themselves.

Maybe it is because you girls lost all your muscles while dieting to lose weight - instead of building up a high metabolism base that will burn the fat for you.

The ideal weight standard is "off" because it couldn't possible apply to everyone, with so many factors affecting your weight. Build(big/small bones), amount of muscle, amount of fat, the way your fat deposits on your body. There meant as a guide, but its questionable whether they're even useful as that.

In my opinion, I wouldn't worry about it. Use the way you feel, the way you look, your fitness level, your body fat percentage, and/or what your doctor says to determine whether you're at your ideal weight (which is really a range), or what it should be if your not there yet.
