Doing workout videos at home

Hi everyone; this is my first post!

I'm Sara and I just turned 40 and have been doing workout videos and a recumbant bike at home. I have had some knee problems so I can't do high impact aerobics anymore.

I do a toning video every morning for 30 - 45 minutes - either a short full body workout or upper or lower body, with 3 or 5 lb weights - and the bike at night for about 45 minutes.

Weekends I do a full body workout video like Karen Voight's Great Weighted Workout, the bike at night, and another video like pilates or yoga.

Any ideas for me? Too much, too little, not varied enough?

I use very light weights so I am not so sure that’s true….anyway, I do upper and lower body on different days usually…..but thanks for the reply.

This really isn’t a very busy board, is it?

What is your weight routine exactly?
Exercises/weight/reps/sets/rest intervals/order ?
What are your goals and where are you now ?

So what are you saying, you don't know?

You mentioned you did something with weights, what is it? You asked about your routine, but you are not giving us much to work with.
How do you accomplish your lower body and upper body workouts?

I do a workout video every morning, with either 3 or 5 lbs hand or ankle weights, like Karen Voight’s Great Weighted Workout, Cory Everson’s Get Hard, Pilates for Dummies, or something from the Steel series (Thighs of, Buns of, etc.)

At night I do 45 minutes on the recumbant bike, with resistence.

is that enough to go on? thanks, johnny!

Well, what do you think ? Is it tough for you ? Do you feel empowered after training ? If you miss a workout for a day or two...are you in a bad mood or feel blaa ?

Personally I am not one to come down on anyone else's training, just offer suggestions. I would suggest a bit different workout, but if you like it and you see results then it's good for you. More important is that you FEEL the results. If you feel it, then you WILL see the results in time.
What you really want is a regiment that fits into your schedule and is fun enough for you to keep you interested week after week. Also, you need to change what you are doing every few weeks or so. Alternating tapes will help quite a bit, but your body will adapt eventually. This does not mean that it stops working after some time, but it does become less effective which inhibits faster results.

Johnny – Well, I can always adapt – using more weight, etc. I have been increasing the time and resistance on my bike so that’s always challenging. Thanks for your thoughts, though.
