Hey there.
My name is Brian and I'm from Edmonton, Alberta. Currently, I'm out of shape and overweight. My physical condition is no where like I'd like it to be. I got laid off from my job with the Railway last December and since then, my physical activity has plummeted to nothing.
I've decided (well, decided about a 3 weeks ago now.) to do something about it. I got a membership to the local Y and am starting out going every second day working on the Eliptical. I decided I want to work my way to joining the Canadian Forces and therefore I have a lot of work to do.
First, I'm not terribly concerned with weight loss specifically. I'm concerned with getting physically fit. My first goal is to double all the entrance standards for the Canadian Forces for physical fitness. From there, though, I want to continue on forging my body into the machine that it is supposed to be.
Second, I don't have the finances to be able to afford a personal trainer. I've seen Starting Strength being recommended for beginners and am going to be looking into it for designing a practical workout schedule for me. I'm just starting with cardio because I know I need endurance more than anything right now.
Third, I'd love your suggestions for what I should do for exercise without equipment here at my desk. I work a schedule of 4 days on, 4 days off, at a desk from 1730 to 0530 the next day. It is generally very slow at my work so I would love to do some of my training regimen here at work.
Anyway, that's me. I'll be starting a journal soon to profile how I'm doing.
