I actually registered at this forum and posted an initial post a number of months back, but I failed miserably after a few days...
This time, I am three months deep and decided it was time to rejoin the board since I'm not quitting this time!
I am 22 years old, 6'4, and started my journey at a whopping 450 lbs!!!! You wouldn't know it if you saw me, I do carry my weight very well(I'm sure I'll post some pics soon) and have always been involved in a minimal amount of physical activity. I have a very large and stocky build and believe I will look pretty good even at 300 lbs. However, as I am finishing up my last year of college and entering the working world, I want to start fresh and feel good about myself. Not to mention I have been lucky so far to stay healthy but I know that at my weight it won't be long before I have some serious health problems. Not to mention, the next step in my life seems to be to catch the girl of my dreams and I won't stop at anything to get that. My goal is to reach 300 lbs by this November and work my way to 230 after that.
Currently, I have been at it for about 3 months and as of today I am weighing in at 412 lbs. So, I am making progress. I have changed my diet, not tried to snack as much, and drink a whole lot of water. I work out as well. The past few months I have been working out 2-5 times a week, but during the new year I have forced myself to do 5 workouts a week; Sunday-Tuesday, and thursday-Friday. I just wanted to introduce myself and also list here the types of foods I am eating and my current workout and get any feedback.
I am looking forward to posting here more often.
Diet
I have heard time and time again that I need to be eating 4-5 small meals a day but this is very difficult on my schedule. I tend to eat 2 meals a day, one at 6:00 p.m. and one at midnight. (I stay up till 3:00 A.M. because of work).
I have been drinking an ungodly amount of water and taking multivitamins every day. Usually for lunch I will eat a turkey sandwich, fruit, and yogurt. Unfortunately I am a vegetable hater so I try to eat fruit whenever possible.
For dinner I usually find myself eating a Turkey calzone (I work at a calzone restaurant) or a salad. Our calzone dough is fat free P.S... Either one usually has the same items; turkey, cheese, bacon, spinach, onions, and peppers.
If I have to snack I will eat fruit, beef jerky, yogurt, the occasional tortilla chips and salsa or sometimes spinach salads.
I am CONSTANTLY drinking water. Seriously, I drink a LOT of it.
My diet almost completely consists of:
Turkey
Cheese
Wheat Bread
Yoplait Light Yogurt
Spinach
Garden Salad
Onions
Peppers
Chicken Breast
Salsa
Fat free dough
A small amount of bacon
a small amount of ranch dressing or honey mustard dressing
Apples
Bananas
WATER
Exercise
5 times a week I do the same workout
1 set of vertical bench presses (40 reps total)
1 set of preacher curls (30 reps total)
1 set of lat pulldowns (30 reps total)
1 set of tricep extenders (30 reps total)
20 minutes on stationary bike (7 miles, random hills, 200-230 calories)
1 set of abdominal crunches with weights (45 reps total)
1 set of rotary torso on each side (45 total on each side)
2 sets of calf presses (130 reps total)
1 set of leg presses (45 reps total)
1 set of vertical bench presses (40 reps total)
1 set of preacher curls (30 reps total)
1 set of lat pulldowns (30 reps total)
1 set of tricep extenders (30 reps total)
20 minutes on stationary bike (7 miles, random hills, 200-230 calories)
If I still have any energy left I might shoot hoops or try and max out on an upper body machine... but I rarely do have energy left.
So... my concerns right now are how my workout and diet looks to those of you who are experienced. I know it has to change over time, but I want to know if there is anything that sticks out. Is it bad that I am working muscles every time I workout??? Am I not leaving them enough time to rest? I am very concerned with my extra skin as I lose weight... I really want to tone up as I lose fat.
I have already had a few personal victories...
My biggest was when I spent time with family over the Holidays and only got a chance to workout twice over a twelve day span. I also indulged in my mother's delicious holiday food and even the occasional sweets. I still however tried to keep my portions much smaller than usual and only eat twice a day rather than 4-5 as I would during past Holidays. I kept drinking tons of water like usual.
Still, I came back expecting to have gained weight and I LOST SEVEN POUNDS! It felt awesome!
It is also nice to have people notice the weight loss. Not many do yet, but if they do they claim to see it in my face or will comment on how my upper body looks more toned.
Please provide me with any feedback you can!! I appreciate all the support here and plan to post regularly.
I already have some pics that show some good results and I will post soon!
