doing bench press right?

i dont know if i am doing a bench press right, because i dont feel anything working in my chest, i only feel it in my arms...are you supposed to feel anything in your chest?

How close or far is your grip width? Are you flaring or tucking your elbows? Are you keeping your ass on the bench and your feet on the floor?

depends how long ur arms are, my arms are pretty long i keep my middle finger at those point things on the bar

Speaking of which, are there adverse effects on the joints when tucking in the elbows on a wide grip bench?

Last time I went heavy with that technique, my elbow (tricep side) hurt when my tricep contracted. It could have been something else, but I'd like to know if I could eliminate some of the possibilities.

How to bench:

im pretty sure it hits the triceps more if you put your elbows inn, as with french press (think thats the name) where you hold a narrow grip on bench press to hit the triceps and not so much the chest, you are suppose to keep your elbows close to your body, same with triceps dip compared to chest dip. so elbows close to body = more focus on triceps. so if you are trying to hit your chest i would suggest not putting the elbows close to the body.

Edit:
Read that article on how to bench, interresting. i have been doing some things wrong now it seems. like i havent been tucking my elbows inn and havent been doing that back thing. do you think it will be heavier to bench when i use the technique, or will it make me able to lift heavier loads?

the correct technique for bench press usually means you can't lift as much as doing it the incorrect way that feels more natural.

I was about to add a few comments, but that bodybuilding.com article really does cover it well. I was surprised... I've read a lot of crap over there, but that article was excellent.

cool, hope i dont have to go down in my bench.
about the shoulders thing, when you try to make the shoulder blades "touch" eacother. do you keep that position trough all of the set, or is that position just when you lower the bench, then when you rise it you push your shoulder blades forward again?

and by doing it the correct way, will that give me better gains than doing it the slightly incorrect way ive been doing so far?

and i dont quite understand what they mean by "the grove" im not very good in english :S and the thing they say about the lats, do i flex them trough the movement?

Nice article, glad I read it. I was never sure about tucking the elbows or not and for some reason never researched it.

Thanks!

i just adjusted my technique to this and it was hard:p heavier than what i had been doing before. but i guess it will pay off in the long run
